Dog scared of being in the car.....?
Everytime I go to get my dog in the car (he is s a little cavoodle) he shakes & goes limp so I can't pick him up. Recently this has esculated into him actually biting me when i try to pick him up. When he is in the car he shakes like a leaf & tries to get on my lap. He is SO scared.... I am not really focused on WHY he does it all of a sudden but more so how I can fix it. It drives me mental.... please help!

A cavoodle is a tiny dog, hes gonna be scared of a big object that makes low growling noises. Heres some tips:
- put him on a leash and just hold on to him tightly and dont start the car untill your buckled in. ((may not work because you mentioned he has started to bite you))
- hes a small dog so pick him up, not outside, and wrap him up in a soft blanket ((dont wrap him up tight, he may get hot and became uncomfortable, instead let his feet and arms hang out and wrap up his head so he can only look at you. pet him and put his face into your chest, so he can see nothing, get in the car and then let him see his surroundings.
REMEMBER:
* just remember to pet him and say soft words
(hope that helps))

Your dog must be taught that the car is a good thing.
Step one, take his favorite treats, go as near the car as he is comfortable, and feed him treats. Work on getting him nearer and nearer the car as you feed him treats.
Work up to luring him to the car with the doors open. Take it gradual and be kind and patient.
Once the dog will approach the car, begin to feed him his dinner in there. I would work on teaching the dog that the car is not a bad place for at least 10 days, with NO car rides during this time.
Once the dog is no longer fearful of the car, put him in, put his dinner down, and start the engine. Let him eat with it idling. Shut it off and treat him. Do this for several days. Work up to closing the doors and letting the dog eat his dinner with the motor running. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CAR IS SAFELY OUTDOORS TO DO THIS. Carbon monoxide can be deadly, do not run a car in an enclosed area.
When the dog is happy eating with the car idling, feed him his dinner, pick up his bowl, and move the car 10 feet or so before letting him out and treating him.
Work VERY gradually to longer car rides.

I would suggest getting rid of his fear one step at a time. First, put him at a safe distance away from the car. (Safe as in he's not freaking out, but not so far that he is perfectly normal.) Then, when he is comfortable, move him a little closer. Work up to getting him inside the car, then when he's comfortable, with the door open (not driving), then shutting the door not driving, and then going for short drives. Don't go too fast, proceed to the next step only when he is perfectly okay. Good luck!

Where do you take him in the car??? If the only time he gets to ride in the car is if you're going to the vet or groomer, that's why he's objecting! Let him sit in the car with you while you clean the windows or straighten out the glove box, without driving anywhere. Give him lots of praise and a treat. Next, take him somewhere fun. Like the park or to visit someone. He should snap back out of it!

You could try getting a dog car seat. They hold the dog in one place the whole time. They usually don't like it at first, but eventually they get used to it.

is he crate trained? is your car big enough to fit his crate?
if he is crate trained he will see his crate as a safe place. by move the crate closer and closer to the car over time until it is actually in the car, he will feel much safer about the car. also, it will be alot easier to get him to stop trying to get in your lap while driving. that can be dangerous.
if he isnt crate trained, its never too late.
he wont like it at first but as time goes on he will learn to love his space.

Sadly enough, there's not a whole lot you can do. Try to give him treats in the car and maybe that'll help, otherwise there's nothing else. It's just like a person being scared of something...roller coasters, spiders, etc.... It's just how it goes. Good luck.
