How long does it take to get a passport?

Question

I am sending all my paperwork in this week to apply for a passport and I am planning to go on a cruise in November. If I have to push it back to December I will but I need to know how long it takes to currently get a passport. I have heard it was 4 months but I was just wondering if anyone has gotten one recently and if it was any longer.

Mine took about four months.  You should probably expect yours to take about the same amount of time, if not longer, because of the backlog. So many applications have come in because of the new requirements on land travel to Mexico and Canada that the government simply can't get the applications processed fast enough.  I would not suggest getting an 'expedited' service because I really don't believe your passport will come any faster.  Well, anyways, I hope everything works out and that you can go on your cruise without any problems!

Its hard to say but one things for sure once we get money
grubbing Bush out of office probably 2 to 4 weeks without
paying more money and by them asking for money to speed it up is a discriminatory issue if they would just process them all the same then every one who doesn't pay wouldn't get put on the back burner we could at least be equal when it comes to getting a frigging passport can't we?
What has happened to the America we learned about in school? We got Clinton out of office for a lot less than what Bush has done..He is the biggest criminal out there! And yet for some reason he's still running us into the ground he needs Impeachment so we can try to repair the damage he has caused.

The U.S. government's web site says 10 to 12 weeks -  unless you pay $60 extra for expedited service, in which case it would be 2 to 3 weeks.  For expedited service,  delivery by overnight mail in each direction is recommended.

There is a huge backlog at the State Department. You might want to consider paying the extra fee for express handling.

It depends. If you do it normally it could take months but if you expedite it which is what i did it could take only a few weeks
