Keeping Watermelon?

When I cut up watermelon and put it in my refrigerator, it gets sour tasting and loses its texture after a few days. I have a new refrigerator, could it be that it is not set correcty?

Make sure you cover it properly. Also, try freezing it.

If you are not going to eat the entire watermelon in a couple of days, removing it from the rind it the best way I know to keep it.

I just bring it home and split it in quarters and cut it up and put it in a plastic bowl that has a lid and place it in the refrigerator.

Each day I would open up the container that you have the cut slices in and drain. The water from that watermelon comes out and sometimes it can get mushy if sitting in that liquid.

    Do NOT freeze.

You need to put a box of baking soda in your refrigerator..it will absorb all the sour taste and smells from other foods so they don't mix with the watermelon.

Check the temperature of your refrigerator. I slice watermelon in chunks all the time and put it in the refrigerator for at least a week and it's fine. It should be stored in 50-70 degree temperature.

get a thermometer for the refrigerator. it sometimes takes a week for it to adjust to a true- 34-38 degrees.Watermelon should keep 3-4 days covered. if it's just you eating it buy the smaller seedless variety. My mother and I can polish off one of those in 2 days.

good wrapping is very important. It will absorb the other flavors in the fridge, After so many days it won't be good as any other food does.

    try keeping in air-tight containers.
