1998 NHL Draft Top 10?
I recently saw that Vishnevski was signed by the Devils and so I checked his player page. He was the 5th overall pick in the '98 NHL Draft and has been a total bust so far. Who else was drafted in the top 10 that year? Was it just a bad draft year like this year?

Shi b got it right. Lecavalier is the only one that went anywhere of those 10. I'd consider Legwand, Stuart, Bell (depending on the team), and Antropov decent, but the rest are all busts. Look at Malhotra for example. Drafted 7th overall, and now he's a 3rd-line center on a crappy Blue Jackets team.

he's not a total bust. the ducks chickened out took a safe pick that year, vishnevski had little offensive upside but was a horse in his own zone. there were a lot of question marks about the forwards in that draft, and anaheim played it safe. in terms of talent, he's more like a second or third round pick.
he's strong and positions well. good penalty killing defender. does little offensively. should be a good fit with the devils.

how can you say this year was a bad draft year...this isnt the nfl.....most players drafted wont play in the nhl for about 5 to 6 years...they are playing college or still developing in the ahl or any other league....and again...its not the nfl.....only a few players from each 1st round will be any good.....and that goes for every round.....alexander daigle was 1st overall...where is he now...he sucks......henrik lunqvist was drafted in the 7th round....and he is pretty damn good.....it doesnt really matter what pick in the nhl draaft you have...its how many ...

I would not say he's been a total bust. He's been pretty good. That was a very good year.
