How do I get softer line dried towels?

I've used liquid fabric softner in the washer but all it does it make laundry smell good. My towels end up drying stiff and not soft! Does anyone have any tips?

Could it just be that I live in Arizona and the laundry dries too fast?

Update:

Tips such as, what type of liquid fabric softener should I use?

Update 2:

My dryer is busted, that is why I need to line dry them.

Put them in hot water with vinegar (1/3 vinegar, 2/3 water) and let them soak for 8 – 10 hours. Next, wash them in the washing machine. Add a cup of vinegar to the final rinsing water.

After they are dry put them in your dryer just for around 6 or 7minutes with a fabric softner dryer sheet

    There is now way,sorry....

we have tried, to no avail.

They feel like your being stabbed by every inch of the towel,I know...

They at least come out sort of soft in the dryer, but we wanted to save electricity, and got towels that could be used to float on in a lake!

I'm sorry, but there is no way.

Hang them out at night and f it's a nice dry, breezy night they'll be nice & soft in the morning. Take them in before the sun gets at them.

I think if you run it through the rinse cycle twice, you will be satisfied.
