What causes a refrigerator to leak inside?
My refrigerator is 3 years old, for about a month is has had a buildup of water in the bottom of the frig and on the shelves inside. I don't see a leak, I just see the accumulation of water. I would think a 3 year old refrigerator should not be going bad. what do you think could be the problem?

4 answers and not a blue hat among them. A stopped up drain may wet the shelves only if its a top freezer model. If its a side by side, you probably have sealed system problems
causing some evaporator coils to sweat and the fan blowing the water around. http://appliancequickfix.com/ will tell you all
about finding out how to find out without guessing.

You probably have a clog in the drain line that goes from the evaporator to the drain pan under the fridge. The line usually is on the back of the fridge running from the lower part of the freezer compartment to the under the unit.
You can take this line apart and try to clean it out with a coat hanger. Otherwise you will have to open the cover to the evaporator coil in the fridge and look for the blockage.
You can usually find a service diagram of where it is all located under the toe kick grill.

If you have a frost free freezer there is usually drain line running down the back of the fridge that the water from the freezer drain down into a pan below the fridge. The line could be clogged or the pan full. Look under it for the drain pan and down the back wall for the drain line.

All the above answers look great but also check the door and gasket. Often a damaged gasket or door that wont close properly (or stay closed) will do exactly what you are describing. Any air leaks will allow more moisture in than it is designed to normally get rid of and the shelf thing reeks of condensation.
Look for air leaks on the doors and gaskets!

it's summer, it could just be from moisture build up. from opening the fridge and letting the hot air in. kinda like how cups of cold liquid sweat and sometimes toilets will sweat in the summer

Thanks for the link to a bunch of ads. Don't waste your time unless you want to pay someone to fix it. Thanks for nothing Uncle Johnny!
