Martial Law?

Over the past few years I have read and seen some things that truly frighten me. I honestly want to know: If Bush declares Martial Law could he remain president indefinitely? (Emperor Bush?)

Who would enforce Martial Law? Would they? Are there enough people in support of Bush that something like that could actually happen?

If there is no doubt in your mind that Osama Bin Laden is to blame for 9/11: Watch the movie 'Loose Change'. I am not suggesting they are 100% right, but it will open your eyes and make you think.

Imagine a United States where George W Bush has absolute power:

No more birth control.

Homosexuals imprisoned.

The Constitution rewritten to satisfy GWB's personal morality.

You will be in church every Sunday, and don't think you will be picking the denomination.

I realize the above list may seem extreme, but over time I think it's realistic. Read 'The Handmaid's Tale' by Margaret Atwood, it is fiction … so far.

Update:

If you're going to post just to tell me I am paranoid don't bother … I know I am paranoid. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you. George W Bush flat out scares me. Never before, not with Carter, Regan, Bush Sr. or even Slick Willy have I said, "Our president scares me and I don't trust him."

Update 2:

Suthrnlyts: Please read the question before you answer. No, none of those things has happened - yet.

I've asked this question before - but I had a lot of references from current gorvernment legislation to back me up

Presidential directive 51 twined with Homeland security directive 51 - The powers that FEMA would atoumatically recieve should an emergency occur

The various positions of people who deny the 9/11 story

The fact that Bush Sr still sits on the Caryle group - the biggest military supplier group in the nation That Bush Sr was the director of the CIA just after the "family jewels" time period was about

That GW Bush's grandfather helped build the Nazi war machine by funding and investing in Germany and was later charged in 1942 with trading with the enemy - A lot more to that story if you choose to look

That Bush Jr - has changed the laws so that a US citizen can be denied rights and declared an enemy combatant

I am no expert in anything - but that is a lot of stuff - and it all available to anyone who wants to look - All of that is printed and out there for the public

Yet - it really may be they know of a threat we don't -

We may be in more doo doo than we are told and so on No responsible government wishes to tell everyone everything

No one expects that they will I am sure -

But there have been a lot of moves that are scary to me joe blow citezen -

One one hand I can't do anything to change anything - Perhaps I shouldn't read all of this stuff

So the truth is - If your paranoid your not alone -

Bush doesn't have the power to declare martial law. Not only does he not have the power, he doesn't have the support. He's not popular enough, and there would be mass desertions from all branches of military and law enforcement.

I support Bush but if he did something like that every Republican in th country would abandon him on the spot. Remember, the Republican party is historically and traditionally the party of Freedom and less government intervention. Of course judging from the past few years I have to question whether the Republican party still follows the Republican platform.

To be honest a Democratic President would be more likely to declare martial law and would probably be more successful at it. Not that I think they will any time soon (maybe the next generation).

There will be no martial law. Not that many people even in the highest up offices in the country support Bush. If there was martial law, people behind it would be David Rockefeller, Jacob Rothschild, and George Soros. Rockefeller controls a lot of the education system, his family controls 90% of the major oil companies, and his family is the richest in the world. Rothschild controls Israel along with the US foreign policy.

And by the way, there are numerous militas down South and in the Northwest that have been training since the early '90s in preperation of a worst case scenario when martial law is declared and a dictator is installed so they can get rid of the dictator.

Bush cleverly placed that little paragraph into the Patriot Act and Congress neglected it. i'm nevertheless gazing Bush heavily b/c he can declare himself dictator and declare Martial regulation for many reasons ... one in each and every of them being economic instability. BUsh has additionally made a handle the Canadian militia to guard the US government ought to the persons get uncontrolled. I doubt that Obama could enforce this, yet he's controlled with the aid of the firms so i does not, as yet, say that it may be an impossibility, yet I easily have been questioning why Bush has no longer declared it yet and postponed the elections. This nevertheless could ensue if it sounds like Obama will win in the process the vote tallies. If McCain have been to accomplish a miracle and win the election i could rather much assure that HE could enforce the guideline and grab administration, rather if the Al-Qaeda back up their veiled possibility to attack the US IF and while McCain is elected. even though it is looking like McCain now no longer has a gamble to win and persons are nevertheless discovering further and extra approximately McCain and Palin each and every day so his possibilities dwindle extra each and every day. look at the information superhighway internet site listed decrease than and you will see what a real possibility this rather is and you would be disturbed and worried much extra. yet, just to console you somewhat, there are option realities already in the works which will safeguard and save the electorate of the united states. we at the instant are not completely carried out in as yet. there continues to be wish. Peace, Love, mild i'm Dartagnon

Yes he can, according to his directive.... which leaves the duration of the powers to his discretion.

And since our military is too busy being target practice for angry Iraqis, not to mention becoming more and more disgruntled,.. he'll use Blackwater and other mercenary security companies to enforce martial law. They mowed people down in New Orleans without provocation after Katrina... think they'd use an ounce of discretion with anyone peacefully protesting? Not likely. Any disagreement with the Führer's policies would result in a bloodbath.

It's a frightening thought, though I pray enough of the GOP has mutinied so he can be stopped.

It seems you are very misinformed on just about everything. I suggest you read a wide variety of publications across the political spectrum. That way you won't sound silly when trying to have a serious political discussion. The Economist, WSJ, New York Observer, New York Times and the Washington Post are all good. Constitutional history is another subject that you should read up on.

Source(s): Martial Law would only be imposed in a severe tragedy causing public disorder.

If Bush declares Martial Law he would be a dictator. If he did that then the militia would rise up and defeat him and no soldier would side with him so, sorry...don't be afraid. Go outside and enjoy the weather and stop reading from moveon.org.

On May 9th 2007, President Bush passed a secret law under the guise of "homeland security".This law gives him ALL governmental power in case of any national disaster or threat. Whatever he deemed a threat, (a flu epidemic, a terrorist threat, a hurricane, etc.)he would be able to carry out ANY ACTION HE WANTED..... WITHOUT any permission from congress. He has essentially made himself a dictator in case a national emergency were to arise. This is CRIMINAL! Does the constitution mean nothing? We need to get this story out to the public and make our voices heard! Pass the word to everyone you know. Here is a link to the story:http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTI...

There's way too much opposition to him now. They'd impeach him in a heartbeat. Don't worry about it.
