Is anyone watching the Tigers/Mariners game?

The umpires just f***** up very badly. Guillen tagged the base runner twice and the umpire didn't call him out. And when they finally reversed the call, they allowed Sexson's run to count, though he wasn't near home at all when the 3rd out was made. These umpires are a joke!

I think what happened was that Betlre & Guillen were running away from the Umpire so this might have blocked his view of the 3rd & 4th tag attempt.

But was even weirder was when they called Beltre out at 3rd base because he failed to touch second. But he clearly did and the umpire called him safe for it. He touch it as he over slid the bag and then the Guillen, Beltre chase was on.

So the umpires never reversed the original call, the ended up calling Beltre out at third for failing to touch second. Run counts in that situation.

    The umpire blew two calls.

I was actually at the game tonight. By definition, the ruling on the field was correct. It was not a force play on the runner that was called out on appeal, it was a TIME play. I believe it's rule 4.09(c) in the official rule book. Since Sexson crossed the plate before the appeal was upheld, and since the batter-runner by definition was NOT forced at second base, the run counts. The problem is that the replays showed the batter being tagged at second base before Sexson scored. With no replay in effect in baseball, it's just one of those things {Fisk/Armbrister/Barnett '75 World Series comes to mind}. How do I know this? I was a professional umpire for 7 years. When was the last time you "strapped it on" and had to judge 95 mph fast balls moving in 3 spatial planes in less than 2 second to render a judgement? Then again, you working as a greeter at Wal-mart must be an equally stressful "career."

    Source(s): Official baseball rules...4.09 (c) exception I think

Bruce Froemming blew that call twice - first, he missed an obvious tag by Carlos Guillen on both the arm and leg of Beltre, then he called Beltre out for missing second base when it was obvious that he touched the bag. Either way, the inning should have been over with a 2-2 score.

I'm usually pretty forgiving, but that was just bush-league from Froemming. There's no excuse for it.

That was rediculous I stood up and went more crazy than Leyland and Guillen did combined. I have no clue what the heck the 2nd base ump was looking at he clearly tagged him when he over slid the bag then tagged him again when the idiot didnt call him out right away. If the tigers end up loosing I hope they end up protesting the game because it gave it all away right there.

That was possibly the weirdest play of the season..it looked as though guillen made the tag but if he somehow failed to get it in that situation he should be cut for not making that play.
