Finding out who the domain owner is pretty easy, unless they've purchased a privacy package.
Try this link: http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp
You can find out who hosts the server usually by the nameserver entries or by finding out who owns the IP address of the domain name.
You can find out the IP address of a domain name by pinging it in the Windows command prompt. Click 'Start' then 'Run' and type in cmd then press enter.
In the window that appears type in ping www.domainname.com where domainname is the name of the website you wish to find the IP address of. The number that you get from that is the IP address of the server hosting the website. Then you can use the above mentioned WHOIS tool to find more information out about the IP address you have.

You can do a whois lookup on the domain name.
Just go to http://samspade.org/ and enter the domain name.
