Who determined that farting cows contribute to global warming?
Do cows have some special kinds of farts that the other mammals in the word don't?
Yes, but WHO determined this? Al Gore? James Hanson? Roy Rogers?
Okay, so it's all about methane but it comes from belching and decaying manure...but not farting? We're missing a segment of the digestive tract here.
"They way we artificially manage their lives, like placing huge numbers of them in close confinement in feedlots, increases their effect." Isn't a litre of methane a litre of methane? Wouldn't confining it to certain areas mean removing it from others?

The Chikins...
...they've organized and are finally fighting back after years of Chick-fil-A "Eat Mor Chikin" ads.
You ever play one of those birds in Tic-Tac-Toe? They're pretty smart!!

Actually cow belches are more damaging... mostly because a larger percentage of the methane produced in cow digestion is off gassed through the front end rather than the rear... it is methane from both... Methane is a more important Green House Gas than CO2 will ever be. Both put together account for well under 10% of the Green House Effect. Water Vapor makes up the other 90%.... Mankind's input is less than 2% of the 10%... Do the numbers.... The whole human race can become vegitarian and live in a cave and still only have a minimal effect on Global Green House Gases...

It's simple science. Methane is a greenhouse gas that holds the Sun's heat close to the surface. Scientists can calculate how much heat a certain amount of methane will cause.
Cows are important for two reasons.
There are a lot of them.
They way we artificially manage their lives, like placing huge numbers of them in close confinement in feedlots, increases their effect.
Better farm management can help reduce global warming a lot, and people are working hard on it. One example:

EDIT - Hmmm... I guess I'm not a global warming activist, according to federalistcapers. I love to talk about this stuff, and don't turn a blind eye to any of it. To me, I'm just a scientist like many others.

They contribute to global warming by releasing methane, but they don't do it by farting, they do it by belching.
All ruminants produce methane in their guts as a result of methanogenic bacteria and protozoa. The compositin of their food is a crucial factor in controlling the amounts of methane the produce, but on average a sheep will produce about 30 litres each day, and a dairy cow will produceabout 200.
Total annual production of methane from ruminant livestock is about 100 million tonnes.
Also, decomposition of livestock manure leads to large amounts of methane production due to its large organic carbon content. In total, such waste accounts for between 14 and 25 million tonnes of methane emission per year globally.

The greenhouse gas produced via farm animals has no bearing on worldwide Warming. follow the carbon. farm animals emit Methane (CH4). the place does this carbon come from?.... the nutrition the farm animals consume... grain and/or grass. the place does the carbon interior the grass and grain come from?... CO2 photosynthesised from the ambience. So the Carbon interior the Methane got here from the ambience interior the 1st place... no new carbon further. Methane has a a million/2 lifestyles of roughly 7 years interior the ambience. Methane oxidises to CO2 and Water vapour subsequently winding up the cycle. farm animals haven't any effect on worldwide warming. EDIT to Trevor; sure, however the redidence of CH4 is short and it reverts to CO2.

This is nonsense. This is propaganda. This is not scientific.
The fraction of excess greenhouse gasses that are caused by burning of fossil fuels can be determined by the ratio of the various carbon isotopes. ALL of the excess, over pre-industrial levels, can be attributed to the burning of fossil fuels. In fact, about half of all anthropogenic CO2 from fossil fuels is sequestered by natural processes.

Their farts are methane, according to scientists

They say all humans fart at least 13 times per day. Some don't think so until they start noticing. and counting.

shhhhh...global waming activist don't like to talk about that little bull in the china shop...since cows don't run on oil, they turn a blind eye to them causing more harm than car, trucks and planes combined. besides, they like eating meat....bull in a china shop...no pun intended, but it works huh?
