The military does not discriminate against any one religion. The reason why the military has chaplains is so that the soldier's freedom of religion is also respected. When a service member joins the military makes every effort to ensure that the soldier can practice his or her religion as free as possible as long as the practices do not impede the mission. Chaplains are required to be able to perform all types of services irregardless of their own religious beliefs. I knew of non Catholic chaplains who gave Catholic soldiers last rites. I have also known of Catholic Chaplains who made sure that Jewish soldiers had religious accommodations made for soldiers. As far as being religious and in the military, "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Matthew 5:9" Sometimes peace comes at a cost. Appeasers are not peacemakers. While the world watched thousands were killed in Darfur. While, in the beginning, politicians in Europe negotiated with Hitler, millions went to their deaths. Because politicians played around genocide was committed in Bosnia and Kosovo before the US entered Bosnia in 1995 and Kosovo around 1998. About the standing military. Times have changed drastically. You have to remember that the US was very isolated during the founding of the nation. We did not know what was to our west and felt that the oceans would protect us. We lived in a country that could sustain us. We were not dependent on other countries for natural resources (oil) and for industry. Since the world has become smaller, it is important to have a standing military that is prepared to engage possible enemies both foreign and unfortunately domestic. The forefathers felt that state militias would do what they needed to to keep their citizens safe. The problem with local militias that are not regulated by the federal government is that they can go rogue. Have you heard of the Whiskey Rebellion. George Washington had to order federal troops to collect a federal tax because the locals would not do it.

Actually I would prefer a restraining order, the state cannot come within 5 paragraphs of any Church and visa versa.

    Not.

The term "separation of Church and state" is NEVER used in any government documents in America....that phrase originates with liberal media types over the last few years to try to remove Christianity from our heritage as a nation.....all the founding Fathers prayed and even had services in the Capitol Blgd. often.

This nation was founded on the Principles of the Bible:

" It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible". - George Washington

" The Bible is the cornerstone of liberty". -- Thomas Jefferson"

"That Book (the Bible), sir, is the Rock on which our Republic rests". - Andrew Jackson

"It is God who gave us life and liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed the conviction that these liberties are a gift from God?" - Thomas Jefferson

"It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God and to obey His will". -- George Washington

" We stake the whole future history of this nation upon the ablility of its people to govern & control themselves according to the 10 Commandments". -- James Madison ...Chief Archetect of the US Constistution and 2nd Pres. of US.

"It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians, not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ." - Patrick Henry

"America was founded as a Christian Nation according to John Adams: "The highest history of the American revolutionis this:It connected in ONE INDISSOLUABLE BOND the principles of civil government with the principles of CHRISTIANITY". -- John Adam - 2nd President of the U S

" The American nation from its first settlement at Jamestown to this hour is BASED UPON and permeated BY THE PRINCIPLES OF THE BIBLE". Supreme Court Justice David Joseph Breiver (1837-1910)

"Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indespensible supports". - George Washington.

I wonder how many of the above supposed quotes of our forefathers are part of quotes that have been found to have been fabricated.
