Your little brother is falling prey to the plan of the soon to be HSE, the Holy Sony Empire. the children in America are being turned into mush... Your brother is lucky, you care and you see the damage before it is too late.

Make yourself a chart of progress, nothing major, just some sits ups, some push ups and a scale. then go check what is the proper Height Weight Proportion for your little brother, come to think of it, you can do your own while you are helping him. make sure not to preach it, but be mindful he does not get it twisted and turn himself into a living skeleton like some people do.

Now on a day when he is glued to the TV, Find an excercise show , my favorite person is Denise Austin, Now while being appropriately dressed, lay down on the floor and either do sits ups until he ask you what you are doing or simply challenge him to a sit up contest, once a week, if he can beat you , he gets fruit roll ups or some other healthy choice , reward.

You must do a Quid Pro Quo with your little brother, offer him this for that,, he will let go of the Remote and hold his sisters hand instead. lead him away from the HSE :)

Most of the other answers are good, but they're leaving out the most important factor in this. Where are your parents? You can't just unplug the TV, or take all junk food out of the house, because he's going to go crying to mom and tell a real sob story and you will end up in trouble, even though you are being a very great sister. Get some program in you town or city for children, present them to your mother or father and tell them how concerned you are about him. My son was in Boy Scouts and my girls were in Girl Scouts. this did them a world of good. They also had other activities. Sometimes moms see the TV as a babysitter. It keeps the child quiet and rather than listen to them whine about not having cookies or whatever, they just give in because they don't want to hear it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying your parents are like that because I don't like to generalize. Keep on your parents about getting him in some other activities. Today's children are severely overweight because of TV, video games etc. You see, if you hound your parents into doing something for your brother's own good, maybe they will get sick of hearing you complain and give in to you. I hope so for your brother's sake. How old is he anyway?

I just read your addition, Even if he's not willing to do anything, your parents have to realize they are the ones in control at his age. They have to make him go and once he gets there, he may find he actually likes it. Try different things. Tell your mom, she's the parent, not your brother. (but say it in a nice way)

Play with him. He's probably watching TV because he doesn't know what else to do. Take him outside, go for a walk, toss a ball around, play a card game or a board game, bake cookies-- anything you want. He will probably be thrilled to be getting so much attention from an older sibling and you'll be getting him away from the TV.

Ask him to make a time table, giving time for studies, play and watching TV . Tell him that he should choose programmes and just view those only. Self-discipline so developed will take him to the heights and he will achieve his goals. But elders also have to be particular not to watch TV programmes all the time. It's the parents in most of the houses who spoil kids.

    Good luck!

What I did for the children in my home is as follows:

1.I deleted all the objectionable cannels that show video albums and films and usually attract children and adolescents towards TV viewing…

2.I made a timetable for the children for studying their subjects and doing home work… and display right in front of them on their study table… and to start studying at 7pm sharp…

3.I never tried to be a goody – goody elder and never hesitated in asking them to leave the TV and go for studying…

4.children should be asked to help our mother in her day to day chores... then only they will learn to move around and develop a healthy body… they should be encourage to play and run and ride bicycle on daily basis…

5.They should have a natural instinct for quick reflexes rather than being lazy…

    You can:

--Unplug the TV. That way, even if he wanted to, he couldn't watch it.

--Encourage him to spend him time doing other things. Sign him up for a sports team (swim teams are great) or take him to the pool.

--Reward him with a certain amount of TV time for doing certain things. For example--If he finishes his homework, he can watch TV for half an hour.

Talk to your parents. They should be caring for him. Take him out for walks every day and play with him out of doors. Play games indoors to stimulate his mind. Get him out with other kids or invite kids over. And see a doctor. He's not too young to be depressed, and it will affect his health. Good luck! You are being a good sibling.

Find him something else active to do that he will enjoy. Most people watch TV because theres nothing better to do. So find him something active and fun.

Turn the TV off. Provide something else for him to do and DO IT WITH HIM. If he gets to do something WITH you it will be more appealing. Good for you Both.
