Male or female dobe?

Im getting a doberman in a few weeks but not sure what sex to get? Ive got a small cross breed male dog who is neutured he lives with a female mastiff now and loves her. but im movin into my own place in a few weeks and the mastiff is my mums and cant come.

Ive had a doberman before and he was amazing the easiest dog by far (expect the walks!).

But he was a male and didnt like other dogs he wouldnt attack them he stayed well clear off them and when one did attack him he'd just stand there!

Any information would be great. As im in two minds, i prefear male dogs but would a female get o n better with the little male.

If i did get a male would he need to be neutured aswell?

Thanks sorry to go on!

Regards Kim

I def prefer males as I have 7 dogs and 6 are males. I have a n/m Dobe who is 14 mos, a 3 yr old n/m Choc Lab and MinPins, 4 n/m and 1 s/f from 13 yrs old to 5 yrs old. All pet dogs should be neutered as it is so much better for the dog. They behave better, have less chance of biting, live longer and are healthier. Plus here the tag is cheaper..lol. I have not had fights with my male dogs but did have a s/f GSD kill one of my s/f MinPins. Females often fight more and kill each other. Many breeders I know can not let 2 girls out together esp Mom and daughter as they try to kill each other. But my 2 big boys go to the dog park and do not fight. Both have 1 title and have been to obed. class. A well bred male raised and trained right should be fine with your n/male mix. There are many Dobe Rescues, have you considered a rescue? Most are great dogs and all the rescues I've had seemed to appreciate their good fortune more than my bought for the show ring dogs. All my dogs including my Dobe who came from a good breeder and has a sire who is an Am and Int. Ch are rescues. My dobe's first owner bought him for a lot of $$ at 4 mos and gave him to me at 11 mos. He didn't go into rescue but there are lots of well bred dogs in rescues and shelters.

Generally it's always better to get the opposite sex to what you already have, but it comes down to personal preference at the end of the day. Male dogs tend to be more dominant and challeging in training then a bi tch and with a strong breed such as the doberman its important that it receives early socilisation and training. On the other hand bitches come into season every 6 months and can be more highly strung. I personally have never noticed any diffrences in the two sexes, my male dog is more laid back and friendly then my bit ch, but with proper training and socilising any sex makes a great addition. Good luck.

A girl would be best as the boys would not fight for territory. Yes if you got a male it would need to be neutered however that cannot demolish all the dominace between he dogs although 2 boys oghether can sometimes be ok usually if its from a young age. If you got a girl it would\ also be best to get her spayed, to resist over dogs trying to be dominant owards your dog you have already. Also female dogs have a season every 6 months which is a cycle where if she was going to be breed it would take place doing the season. Bit ches bleed during the season.

However i would still get a female dog.

I've had 5 Dobermans over the last 15 years and all have been female. I simply can not stand the leg lifting and pissin' all over everything in sight that happens with males.

i was a doberman breeder and although i love the breed i wouldn,t put two males together the dobie would have to be the top dog and unless your other dog was very submisive i would get a female i have broken up fights between two male dobies and its not very pretty to watch apart from how dagerouse it is to you yourself, i would definately advise you get the female unless its going to be the only dog

In any given situation, focus on what you do want your dog to do instead of on whatever he’s doing wrong. Learn how to train your dog https://tr.im/gHn00

For example, suppose that on many evenings, your young dog gets busy looking for trouble just as you’re digesting your dinner. He grabs a boot from the mat by the front door and gallops through the house with it. You yell at him and take it away. He grabs its mate. You yell and take it away. He heads for the kitchen and starts checking out the counters in case something tasty’s been left behind. You chase him away. And on and on, until you’ve lost your temper and torn out clumps of hair you can ill afford to lose.
