I've used Frontline on my dogs for years and have never had a problem with it. Thus, have never used any other flea product.

I can tell you that it would be in your best interest to not use any of the flea products that you could buy at a pet store. They just aren't going to work that great. Frontline, Advantage and Advantix are over the counter products that can only be purchased at a vet, but are worth the trip.

Also, the trick to any flea medication is to get it on the skin. You can't just put it on top of the fur and have it magically work. And don't wash your pet 24-48 hours after you have put the product on as you will literally wash the product off.

And you will probably still see fleas on your pet. The stuff isn't going to kill them automatically when they jump on your pet. So, don't freak out and think it's not working just because you see a flea. If you cannot stand the sight of fleas, there is a product called Cap Star that you can give you pet every 24 hours that will kill any fleas on them. But using that while your pet is on any topical preventative is a bit of over-kill.

Do some animals have allergies to topical flea prevenatives? Yes. But, that precentage is quite small.

Frontline (Fipronil), you can look up "fipronil toxicity" on a search, very deadly to rabbits for some reason.

N.Y. Governor Elliot Spitzer I recently read said that he's upset how this pesticide is being used on pets and no one really knows the long term toxicity to pets, that they are experimenting on them. I am a believer in what he had to say. (sorry I don't have the link to that)

If you have a flea infestation I know the nightmare it can become to you and your pet/pets. Currently we have a book by a vet, a Dr. Pitcairn that has more natural safer remidies for flea control and I hope it works, so far so good.

BE VERY CAREFULL about some of the "tips" you may get here, some can be danderous and deadly, research everything before you try it.

As for the others we don't use them. We did many years ago use a fogger from a vets office while our dogs were at the groomers, the smell didn't leave the house for days and it was the middle of winter. I wrote the co. and demanded a refund as we'll as extra $$ for 3 days of heat blowing out our windows with fans in them, they did send me a check for both.

    Research on alternatives.

I chose K9 Advantix for my 12 week (at the time) Boxer. The reason I chose K9 over Frontline is that K9 protects against biting flies and Frontline doesn't. Other than that, the two supposedly fight off the same pests. So far, no seizures or any ill effects. If you are really concerned, try an old fashioned flea collar. My parents use one for their Brittney on their 56 acres in Massachusetts, and he has not had one problem.

My mom had a mini poodle, and I have a Sheltie. We used Frontline on the poodle and Advantix on the Sheltie. Both were scratching a couple of days later, the meds were current, so we don't know what happened. I've never heard of biospot, might want to ask your vet what s/he recommends.

DO NOT USE BIOSPOT...IT WILL CAUSE SEIZURES IN PETS. Frontline or Advantage are really the best bet...I don't know too much about advantix.

Again don't waste your time with BioSpot. I tried it and my dogs got fleas.

I have a bichon frise and none of them work for her. She just itches and itches. I am now adding apple cider vinger to her water and a Wendel's Herb for itch to her feed.

I have had success with Frontine Plus in teh past. Watch out for Advantage for dogs, if you cat rubs up against the dog it could cause death to the cat.

I hate them all, because they are just horrible toxins!! You know they all actually eat the nail polish off of my nails!! But it is necessary, I like Frontline and if you start at the base of the tail and go up it doesn't seem to affect the eyes as much. It is really harsh as they all are but I have found that one to do the trick and I have 7 cats!!!!

I'll tell you what my groomer told me. she doesn't like any of them, because they can burn the skin of the dog.

she recommends a flea shampoo called "Zodiac". not only does it take care of all the live fleas on the dog, or in the home, but it also keeps the eggs from hatching. you use it once a month. I like the idea, because my dogs sleep with me, and this would keep them smelling nice. we haven't had any fleas yet, so I haven't had to use it.

we use heartguard and frontline, they work great unless your dog already has heart worms than heartguard can kill them so have your dog checked before you start them on heart medication
