Why Do People Like Different Foods?
Ignoring vegetarians and people who choose not to eat certain foods due to beliefs, what is the reason that people like foods over others, for example, i hate onions, but others love them, and why some foods are preffered more than others. Do people taste them very differently or simply prefer the different taste?

A lot of it is cultural ...Different people are fed differing foods as a youngster..It has a lot to do with availability to obtain certain foods ,so we tend to eat the same kinds of things as others in the same country as us..

Great question!!
Some people taste in a very similar fashion, but like different tastes due to their own preferences. Also, past expiriences with a certain taste can effect the person's liking of that food. For example, you might really love shrimp and eat a ton of it until you get sick. Then you dont like it anymore. The types of food you grew up with also effect whether or not you are open to eat a certain food. Some people taste very similarly, unless their tongue is cut off or somethin. ; ) Many reasons.

Some peoples' taste buds are more highly developed in different areas than others. It might also be to do with upbringing. It also has something to do with smell. I cannot eat cauliflower or brussels, and most root veg, except carrots and potato. Also there is the question of texture. This is part of the reason I cannot face the root veg. I prefer crunchy or chewy. Not stringing and sweet.
Hope this gives you some help!

Because everyone's taste buds are different. By the way, here's some thing interesting- your taste buds change every seven years. Cool, huh?

I think we all taste things our own way. I think tastebud range is different for each person. But it goes deeper than taste-I think texture has a lot to do with what we like to eat as well. I totally can not stand pasta. I can eat egg noodles, but not spagetti, rotini, etc. We are all unique.

It is part race memory but is mostly psychological.
If you eat a food repeatedly your brain treats it as good. If you stop eating that food and come back to it after a few months, you brain will think it is suspect.
This effect is magnified with our predisposition to liking fats and sugars and disliking acids and bitterness.

After having raised a son alone - whose tastes are TOTALLY different than mine - I know it can't be because it is how your parents ate.

For the same reason that we aren't all married to the same woman...
...that we wear different colored clothes than the next guy...
...that we have hair styles individual to our tastes...
...that we seek jobs that appeal to us...
and the list goes on.
The answer is, that we are individuals with individual tastes.
