Surgery question here... If someone had surgery, would it not make sense to have both doctors....?

your surgeon and your regular MD be checking on the status of your health while you are staying at the hospital? This is a serious question... I need help!

Your surgeon is the specialist for this procedure.

You would not expect your regular doctor to be there when you see another specialist, for example a urologist, right? That applies to surgery as well.

Many hospitals now have a hospitalist, a doctor who is responsible for all patients being cared for in the hospital, before and after an operation of procedure. He/she acts like your regular doctor.

    Good luck with the operation.

  • I wouldn't expect my GP to be there if I had a specialist. When you go for a yearly physical you can tell your GP about your recent surgeries but I wouldn't expect them to be there in the hospital.
