Conservatives and other so called "Red Staters", Have you ever been apart of a Poll?
How many Conservatives or people who live in so called “Red States” have ever been called or sent one of these highly quoted “National Polls”?
How many Liberals or people who live in so called “Blue States” have ever been called or sent one of these highly quoted “National Polls”?
I would like to see a number, because I read Liberals always talking about 70% of Americans want the War in Iraq to end and to bring the Troops home today. All the anti-war rallies I have seen have been relatively small for that huge number they claim are against the war. Where I live, Georgia, very few are against the war; Cindy Sheehan found that out on Saturday. So where are they polling to get this fabled 70%?

Only online, but the ones everybody seems to quote from are not online polls, but taken from landlines (that can often denote poor people and possibly have a higher percentage of minorities, since most no longer use a landline anyway- most working for a living use their cell phones and the internet to discuss). Most middle class voters have their phones on the national do-not-call registry, so that will also skew polling stats toward the working class and poor who favor Democrats, but only about half are actually registered to vote and will.
Always question any poll and pay attention to the statistics. If you see a news article quoting a statistic and they do not quote a polling source, the number is not scientific and the author of the article did not do any research. It is an opinion piece and belongs in the trash if it is not posted in the editorial section. A course in statistics and research methods will tell you this. It will also tell you that to get an accurate representation, the ideal sampe is 30% of the voting population. 900 people polled in lower Manhattan is not 30% of the U.S. voting population. We can also test, if we wanted to, 900 people from Crawford, TX and come up with a high approval rating for George Bush.
Ellis Hennican of Newsday walked onto the set of a news talk show to take questions from the audience and bash Bush. When he quoted to the host that 70% of the nation is disgusted with the President and said that Bush should get out of Iraq and looked to the audience for support, an audience member stood up and said, "Now wait a minute! Do not quote some poll taken from voters in San Francisco and tell me what to think!" The audience broke out into applause and cheers, and suddenly happy-go-lucky Ellis Hennican looked like he was under fire and afraid for his life!
Other people immediately backed up the audience member saying nobody had ever called them on the phone to ask what they think, and cocky old Ellis suddenly found himself alone with not a single person of the 70% to back him up. The look on his face was PRICELESS!!! He looked like he was under siege and just about to die.
If you look at an electoral map of the elections for 2000 and 2004, you will see America as mostly a red nation. You will see blue dots in the biggest cities, but Bush wins all the rural areas. These are people who have bought land, own homes, and have moved out of the cities and ghettos where the polls are actually taken.
Source(s): Red state voter living in CA. Sucks, but I registered Independent just to be able to choose my primary, but I support in full Bush's efforts, with minor disagreements, but I can usually see why he did what he did. - Anonymous1 decade ago
Good question Holbrok, I think these so called polls are democrat propoganda, about as much truth in them as Goebbels during world war 2.
I know a few slow people who are anti war, but most I know are sensible people who know its better to fight the enemy over there than here.
I have never been polled and do not trust these so called numbers at all, I bet the President is actually more popular with the REAL majority of people than is made out, but that is not part of the liberal media agenda

I've been ignoring polls after I took a stats class in college and found out how much information is left out with the results. I also have a friend who helps create poll questions and she says you can make a poll go one way or another just by the question.
I also have never been called for these polls and I sometimes wonder just who is polled, where do these people live?

I live in a Red State and I have been polled several times over the course of the last 25 years or so by both National and State polling organizations. So has my wife.

I say the same thing about the approval ratings polls. I, nor anyone I know, has ever been asked about polls. And i bet you most polls are taken in high population areas like New York City, Philadelphia, Wash. D.C.... never from towns like mine with a population of less then 1000.

It is well documented that pollsters consistently call the same demographic areas that support their political agendas.
Nobody has ever called or asked me what I think but the government does not seem interested in the will of the people anymore either.
Good question.

I have NEVER been asked to take a survey or poll by a local, regional, or national media source. I've never given much credit to the accuracy of those percentages. They don't ever seem to represent the people I am around in my "red-state."

Here are some polls. They should explain their methods and sample populations here. There are lots of stats here, so it is a little bit overwhelming. In truth, you could take certain parts and use it to make any point.

If there were a draft, watch how dramatically the number rises. And no, I haven't been part of a poll before.
