What does this lyric from Jesus Christ Superstar mean to you?
I was watching Jesus Christ Superstar yesterday....There is a lyric in one song where Jesus says "to conquer death, you only have to die"
This really struck me as simple, but oh so eloquent. What does it mean for you in your life?

Now THAT question rings my Pavlovian bell. I was in high school
when JC Superstar came out. Although I was raised High Episcopal, hooked up with the Baptists, and even had a brief
lap dance with Mormons, this music FINALLY put a personality to Christ. It was all chapter and verse up till then, and I really appreciated the humanizing of Christ through JC Superstar. THEN, I became a stronger Christian, according to my beliefs at the time. I think to be a good Christian you HAVE to draw close to Christ the Man. This trinity cr@p gets Christians bogged down, and they run to their bibles, flippin' through pages trying to prove something they will NEVER be able to prove..and just giving atheists more ammo. What has acting like a good self-righteous Christian done for George W. Bush
lately? And what has HIS faith done to our nation spiritually?
I don;t think even GOD embraces the concept of "right and wrong". It's just a guilt trip, advanced by
churches or people who want to have power over you.
Oh yeah..you asked a question!..I think the lyric means..."to conquer FEAR, you only have to die..once you're dead, you certainly are no longer in a position to fear death. And at that point in the musical..Jesus was plenty afraid, with good reason. If he had felt no fear whatsoever, then I would believe in the trinity. Thanks for your thoughtful question, I earned these two points!

Well, the play was controversial and not necessarily a promotion of Jesus, so it may not have a Christian meaning at all.
Perhaps it means that once dead there is no more fear of death, either through the end of one's consciousness or the entering of the afterlife. I suppose the statement was probably deliberately left ambiguous in that regard.

maybe its a translation of the immortality of the soul. you can be immortal in heaven or somesuch. I always took it as facing your demons, but thats just me. If i remember correctly, this line was used when Jesus was chastising Simon for trying to make Jesus fight like their enemies yes?

so many people are scared of death and whats going to happen after it happens but in my opinion, you live to die. Afterall all we really look forward to is what will happen when we die and is it true what people say? So by not being afraid of death you will survive it as they say.

To give up your own fleshly desires, ie, to die to self. God gives back so much more than you could possibly give up.
