I am a single mom of an autistic son, I live in New Hampshire, and I am loving life! I sing at Renaissance Faires, and love to write, knit/crochet and sew, and I am a genealogist and family historian. I have a twisted sense of humor, but I always try to be respectful. :)

  • Do you agree that CM Punk's current plot is giving "straightedge" a bad name?

I am just sick of this "preaching" stuff. And, I think he needs to lay off about the prescription drugs. What about diabetics who have to take insulin to live? That isn't an "addiction". I think they have pushed the whole "straightedge" plot too far. I thought straightedge was a positive thing, like living clean and healthy. This whole plot has turned my stomach and I feel like it has given the concept a bad name. What do you think?

  • How can I create an "owner" or Moderator for a Yahoo Group that no longer has one?

I belong to a Yahoo group that has no owner or moderator. Our owner's ID has been deleted, for some reason, and we only have one person who can make changes, but she can't create a new owner or moderator. HELP! :D

  • Why can't I see another avatar in Second Life?

My son has a new avatar in SL, and he can't see mine and I can't find his. I can't search to add to friends whether we are online at the same time or not. Could this be because he is a teenager, and my account is not? Thanks in advance for suggestions!

  • Is there a program that will rename music files based on the song info?

I used to do this with MusicMatch Jukebox, but they have been bought out by and converted to Yahoo Jukebox and I think they removed that function. I can't find it anywhere in the new software that I had to upgrade to. HELP!

  • My sound and video are stuttering on my laptop. What happened?

I have run virus check, and deleted several trojans, defragged, cleared huge amounts of disk space, ran Ccleaner and fixed registry mistakes, checked my startups, tasks and processes and deleted anything unnecessary, then defragged again. Still, it is unbearably slow to open any program/s, and my CPU Usage is lower, but everything is still slow. This makes my sound and video stutter. Btw, I am running AVG Free anti-virus, and used Cureit for malware, also Symantec. I have 1 GB of memory, and an AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology ML-34 1.79 GHz processor, with 80.1 GB hard drive capacity, and 52.3 GB free. I have also replaced the driver for the sound card and that didn't change it.

What can I do to figure out what is wrong?

  • What should I do about files that can't be defragmented?

Can I delete them or move them, and will this help? I am trying to increase the speed of my computer when it is processing things. The hard drive is really full, so I am deleting and moving a lot of files, and today I did a defrag and got a list of files that couldn't be defragmented.

Is there anything else I can do to increase the speed?

    Thanks for any suggestions!

  • Recommendations for beginning camper - gear?

I have a tent, air mattress, sleeping bag, a lantern and some bug spray for each of us (myself and my son). What would you recommend I add? I am thinking cooking gear, something simple. We probably won't be camping more than 2-3 days at a time, usually for weekend events like a Renaissance Faire, so not too far from a store, but would like to have breakfast handy, at least. Any other recommendations gear wise? Thanks!

  • If gravel is not necessary, how do I hold down the plants?

I read at aquariumfish.net that gravel is not necessary in a freshwater fish tank, but a thin (1/4 inch) layer at most can be used for decoration. I think I have way too much in there, because it is at least an inch or two deep in places and there is a lot of waste collecting in there. So, I am happy to take out all the gravel, or at least most of it, because some of my fish are having problems, but how do I hold down the plastic plants without any gravel? They all have those little plastic "v" shaped bases for being held down by gravel. Any suggestions?

  • Why is my system idle process constantly running so high?

It runs up into the 90s, and is always high. I have scanned for viruses, spyware, etc. and that helped some, but I still can't do anything without having to wait an unreasonable amount of time. I also have a program called The Ultimate Troubleshooter that helps to determine what processes are running and are necessary, or can be safely stopped. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Why do leaves on trees turn over before it rains?

I think this may be folklore of some kind, but I think it is true. You can tell it is going to rain if the leaves on the trees turn over. It makes them look a little silvery. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, and why does this happen?

  • How often can I do a partial water change for 29 gallon tank in an emergency?

I finally figured out what is killing off my mollies... I had put in some other fish from a smaller tank, and didn't realize that it would cause a nitrite spike, so now I have nitrite readings off the chart. I have done about a 30% water change this morning, but the readings are still at least 2.0ppm but not as high as 5.0 (like it was reading before). So, is it harmful to the fish to do another partial water change right away, should I wait a few hours, or even a few days?

I want to dilute it some more, but I don't want to harm them any further. Any suggestions?

  • How do I get my male betta to make a bubble nest?

I have the male in a tank with no decoration but one "plant" with 6" wide leaves drooping over the top of the water - hopefully enough to give him the shelter he needs for the nest. The water is about 6" deep, and is about 82 degrees with just a tiny bit of oxygenation from a small filter that I have pinched the tubing to control the speed of the airflow. I have the female floating in the water in a separate plastic container so he can see her but not get to her yet. He seems active and is eating well, but so far, no bubble nest. She has been in there for 24 hours, and I don't want her to be harmed by staying in the cup for too long. What else can I do to encourage him so I can let her out with him?

  • names of good celtic bands that sing traditional music?

I have been listening to Arcona Reel Band, and various compilations of Celtic music, but I would like to learn more about specific bands, especially of vocal traditional music, but some instrumental reels/jigs, etc. mixed in are great too! Any recommendations? Thanks!

  • where can I get test tubes for the aquarium water test kits?

I bought the "master test kit" for $35, and after doing all the tests, I washed them out and laid them on the counter to dry. A little while later, I walked past and managed to knock all of them on to the floor, where they all shattered.

So, now I have all these chemicals, and no test tubes. Anyone know where I can get just the tubes?

    Thanks!

  • What happened to my mollies? They all died at once...?

I had a breeding pair of speckled mollies, and 5 silver mollies (some male, some female) in a community tank with a pleco, chinese algae eater, long-tailed blue danios, giant danios, brass tetras, neon tetras, X-ray tetras, neon danios, and several baby mollies and long-tail blue danios.

All seemed fine, but in the last 24 hours or so, all of the adult mollies have died. None of the other fish seem affected at all, and so far I think the baby mollies are still okay.

What on earth is happening in my tank? Can anyone please help me with this? What should I do to protect the remaining fish?

(I am really freaking out! I really loved those mollies...)

  • What is the distinction of Wizardry, as opposed to Witchcraft?

This question just occured to me when I was explaining the distinction between Wiccan, Pagan and Witch. If Harry Potter attends the school of "Witchcraft and Wizardry", what is the difference? Is this a gender thing, or is it more based on the type of magick practiced by each? If so, what is the difference?

  • What does this lyric from Jesus Christ Superstar mean to you?

I was watching Jesus Christ Superstar yesterday....There is a lyric in one song where Jesus says "to conquer death, you only have to die"

This really struck me as simple, but oh so eloquent. What does it mean for you in your life?

  • How to clean an old braided rug?

I don't know if it is an antique (probably older than I am, anyway). I got it from my grandparents house, and I am not sure what it is made of, but it might be some kind of wool. It smells terrible (from years of pet accidents), and collects dust like nothing I have ever seen. I have used some dry carpet cleaners and vacuuming on it, which helped with the smell, but I would like to really clean it so I can use it in my bedroom. Is this something I can or should have professionally done, and if so, where do I go? I would prefer to try home fixes first. Any suggestions?
