Why is my system idle process constantly running so high?
It runs up into the 90s, and is always high. I have scanned for viruses, spyware, etc. and that helped some, but I still can't do anything without having to wait an unreasonable amount of time. I also have a program called The Ultimate Troubleshooter that helps to determine what processes are running and are necessary, or can be safely stopped. Any suggestions? Thanks!

See, The Task manager caluculates all the utalizations in percentage.
Your system has 100% , utalization slot.
A program may be using the system highly or some may use the system just to 1 or 2 %
some remain 0%
only thing which confuse you is that there is no % mark.
So, when you add up all the program's utalization (including system idle process) , it makes up to 100.
so, the utalization of all the programs (excluding system idle process) give you the system idle prcosess.
if u have 90 as syustem idle process, it means that the 90% of system capability is not in use and only 10% is used by several programs.
A high system idle process is a good thing. It is a high CPU usage that is a bad thing. The unreasonable amount of time problem could be a lack of RAM for what you computer is doing. Try closing what you do not need open...
"The Ultimate Troubleshooter" sounds like an iffy program (I have never heard of it) that you have. This could be causing problems on it's own. Stcking with known brands (Symantec, McAfee, Mozilla, et cetera) for saftey is my advice...

It's just a task that runs in the background to keep the processor occupied and stop it from getting bored by filling up the unused capacity. As soon as you start actually doing some work the systems idle stops running so much.

If you add up the process utilizations they add up to 100. System idle time is 100 minus whatever the other processes are taking up. High Idle time is a good thing.
