Can an Aussie become a dual citizen?
An an Aussie become a citizen of the US and retain their Australian citizenship? It would be great to be able to return in retirement since they have (almost) free medical care.

This is a good question, because they've just changed the law in Australia, which formerly did not allow dual citizenship because all their bright young people were leaving and they didn't stop to think about why this might be the case. At any rate, the ruling was changed--it's listed under such-and-such-law of 1948, I think--a few years ago. So now you can become a US citizen without renouncing your Australian citizenship.

I know an American who has dual citizenship with Australia. I would imagine it could work the other way around.

Hell yes. Australia has accepted dual since 2002. Quite of my friends (myself included) have dual (some have had it on the sly beforehand too).
From what I hear the US has free health care too and apparently you don't need a medicare card to access it. ^_^

Australia recognises twin citizenship whilst the different u . s . does, yet no longer with each u . s .. The U.S. is one u . s . that would not have a twin citizenship dating with Australia, consequently in case you're taking US citizenship, you will no longer be an Australian. Australia purely gave "Aussie conflict Brides" who married US servicemen in the process WW-2 the right to hold twin citizenship in the event that they needed to -- yet it is is constrained to easily various hundred.
