  • Amp/receiver has a problem?

My stereo system will often cut out one or both speakers. If I increase the volume, the speakers come back on and I can reduce it to normal levels again. I doubt it is the wiring or the speakers so is it something in the amp I can fix? I may just give up and buy an HD receiver.

  • Mechanic says I need a throttle body cleaning. Can I do this myself?

My 2001 Toyota Solara was in for an oil change. They showed me the insides of the intake manifold which is dirty just past the throttle body valve. Said it was harming my catalytic converter and affecting gas mileage. They would squirt something in there and run the engine until it was clean. Wouldn't that just go to the converter anyway? Should I manual clean what I can reach?

  • What local events are planned in February 2009 in the Greater Seattle area that would interest visitors?

We have guests coming from Australia and we would like to show them local sights other than the usual Space Needle, Pike Place Market, the Ballard Locks, museums, Mt. Rainier, or Snoqualimie Falls. Looking for local events in western Washington State during the first part of February.

  • Corolla whistling noise?

My 2005 Corolla seems to make a whistling noise at speeds of and above 75 MPH. It is intermittenent; more pronounced during headwinds or when just passing another vehicle on their left. Sounds like it is inside the dash. Anyone else have this problem? Car has 43,000 miles on it so I doubt it is a warranty item.

  • Zoology pronunciation?

Does everyone know that there is no "zoo" in zoology? It is pronounced zoh-AHL-uh-jee.

Do you correct people who mispronounce words like this?

  • Can an Aussie become a dual citizen?

An an Aussie become a citizen of the US and retain their Australian citizenship? It would be great to be able to return in retirement since they have (almost) free medical care.
