Is there an OTC pain medication and/ or muscle relaxer safe that I can give my dog?
My dog is acting as if she is in pain. Especially when touched on certain spots. She seems to have slightly inflamed muscles in these areas. I plan to take her to the vet on monday, however for the rest of the weekend I thought I might try some OTC meds.

Hi, the safest is eneric coated aspirin. the coating helps their stomachs from bleeding. We have had Great Danes for years and the coated asprin keeps their hearts in good condition and is a great anti-inflammatory. If your dog is older, they might also benefit from a capsule of crongroiton and glucosimine mix helps their joints. The spelling is probably wrong, but I know that Great Danes usually live to be about 9yrs old, and ours live to be in their teens.
I just hope your dog feels better soon.

not one of the OTC human soreness relievers are thoroughly risk-free for canines. Tylenol (acetaminophen), Ibuprofen and Naproxen Sodium (like Aleve) are all out of the question for dwelling house use. Aspirin was once extremely usually cautioned, in spite of the shown fact that it particularly isn't any longer to any extent further. Aspirin has somewhat some problems: it creates a danger of bleeding interior the GI tract; no 2 canines metabolize it an analogous way, so which you on no account comprehend if the dose is sweet; long-term use erodes cartilage in canines. The prescription NSAIDS for canines ( Rimadyl, Etogesic, Deramaxx, Metacam, etc. ) are the main secure soreness relievers for canines. Ask your vet a pair of prescription for as mandatory use. in the experience that your canines is in some minor soreness from a sprain/tension style muscle concern and you have no prescription NSAIDs out of your vet, your maximum suitable wager is to limit him to shrink his interest. A crate may be appropriate. in case you do not have one, block him off in an extremely small room-perchance a bathing room-- so he can relax the affected section. ETA: sure, Tramadol is yet another risk-free, efficient, prescription soreness reliever for canines, yet perchance slightly lots for a minor muscle tension. (BTW, Tramadol is a prescription med for people, too--no longer OTC. it particularly is a narcotic.) back, the main secure soreness meds for pets are prescribed via your vet-no longer OTC human soreness relievers.

I wouldn't give her anything until you get her to the vet.
You may do more harm than good trying an OTC medicine untill you have a diagnosis.Good luck.

The vet I use is open 27/7 but you should find one that is and call and ask. I have given my dogs aspirin, tums and pepto before for various needs and they are fine to give them. But ask the vet!
