Can stress alone cause fever or there must be something else ?
Thank you for your answer! :) Have a wonderful week ahead! :)
Blood tests show nothing.
The fever is not high, but it's exhausting. It comes very quickly, following a strong emotion, or a very stressful situation, and it can last a few hours, or a couple of days, no more. This has been happening for more than twenty years, all blood tests show nothing, and no doctor, so far, could come up with anything better than "it may be a weak immune system". This doesn't make sense to me.

If you really do have a "weakened immune system", you should have evidence of this. Has your doctor checked: IGM, IGG, IGA levels, white blood cells, red blood cells, ANA levels, all complement levels? Ask for the results supporting the doctor's claims. Have you had a viral panel, been checked for common bacterial infections and various autoimmune conditions?
If this is not preventing you from functioning, why chase it? Maybe this is your "normal" and the rationale for the mystery has been deemed a "hypothesis" rather than a diagnosis by your doctor? If this is interupting daily functioning, my advice? Be persistent, arm yourself with knowledge and strength, and do not let doctor's tell you "you are fine" when you do not feel fine. Sometimes doctors stop short of investigating "zebras", looking for common molds. When you don't readily fit one, you're deemed fine or are made to feel like you're exaggerating or making it up. Don't buy into this.
As other user's have mentioned, stress can do crazy things to your body and mind. I have my own anecdotes...I also thought it was wise for someone else to mention that temperature fluctuates with different activities...
If you've had these probs for 20 years, you may already have this info (and more), but figured I'd append it, just in case. Got it from the "mayo clinic". This site typically contains both valid and reliable info.
"A fever usually means your body is responding to a viral or bacterial infection. Sometimes heat exhaustion, extreme sunburn or certain inflammatory conditions such as temporal arteritis — inflammation of an artery in your head — may trigger fever as well. In rare instances, a malignant tumor or some forms of kidney cancer may cause a fever.
Fever can be a side effect of some medications such as antibiotics and drugs used to treat high blood pressure or seizures. Some infants and children develop fevers after receiving routine immunizations, such as the diphtheria, tetanus and acellular pertussis (DTaP) or pneumococcal vaccines.
Sometimes it's not possible to identify the cause of a fever. If you have a temperature higher than 100.9 F for more than three weeks and your doctor isn't able to find the cause after extensive evaluation, the diagnosis may be fever of unknown origin...."
I keep editing here....oppps....but, I forgot to mention: you might want to consider re-posting in "Medicine". I've found it's the best place to post health stuff. I know of many real doctors that hang out there :-).
Good luck Moon :-). My thoughts are with you :-).

I don't think stress alone can cause fever - although it might. If it persists more than 12 hours I'd suggest seeing a doctor. Self medication is always a folly. A fever may signify little - or much. Especially in these times of new kinds of flu, etc. Go, dear Moon, go! If the current episode has no clinical explanation, I reckon you need to boost the immune system (Doctor can advise) - and learn how to manage stress. My father and I were never good at stress though we each lived stressful lives. Mother seemed to strive on it but was often exhausted and died of cancer. Dad and I developed our own ways of dealing with it - he would stress until he fell over BUT I learned to walk away (occasionally to the complete perplexity of others - but such things are THEIR problems). That meant I could come back, ready and able to quietly beat whatever and whoever caused the problem for me. Nothing matters that much after we're dead, so why should we let it matter TOO much now?

To my knowledge, stress CANNOT cause a fever, but as Mr. Knowitall said, it can break down your immune system, thus, stress=low immunity=physical conditions that cause fever. Diagnose what's causing the fever, & please do something about your stress! Stress can cause many (sometimes serious) physical conditions. It can actually raise your cholesterol, & your blood pressure, among other things...
Edit: I hope you read K's answer, especially paragraph 5. Stress does NOT cause a fever. Fever is is caused by physiological condtions only. (Such as viral or bacterial infection etc.) One may "feel" feverish when under stress. But emotions "alone" can't cause fever. K's answer is well informed, & comprehensive. I don't know if this was a question in general, or personal. If personal, I truly hope you find a way to overcome stress. In that regard, shahbarak's was very wise. Best!!

From what I know, a fever is natures way of telling you that your body is fighting off some type of bacteria, etc. I can't see how stress would cause you to have a fever, but anything is possible, I guess.

Stress and activity in itself can make your temperature rise- one night my blood pressure that is usually high was strangely low, i had a low grade fever and dizziness- only that one time- within an hour or so I was fine.
If anyone takes their temp after eating, or showering, doing any physical movement or strain, or stressed from running around, and they take their temp, it will be anywhere between 98.8 to 99.6- other than this, I cannot imagine what could cause a fever unless you suffer from anxiety which is flu like symptoms, shakiness, after the initial attack you are exhausted, overheated, and sometimes even a headache.

I think it might be possible that stress alone could cause a fever, but it would be very rare. More likely, stress could weaken your immune system and you'd get a viral or bacterial infection.

I have never heard where stress causes fever. I think you will find it is something else.

Stress, being being worn out, lack of sleep can definately cause a low grade fever.

stress is a big contributor for a person to have fatigue in if your body is really worn out then you will have fevers.
