What is really happening in Sedgefield now that Blair has gone?
There has been a great deal of commentary about whether David Cameron has failed to make a breakthrough, or if the Lib Dems have done anything but hold their own. However has anyone noticed that the British National Party has increased the extreme rights vote by a factor of 10, scoring just short of 2,500 votes or 9% of the poll, compared to the National Front's 253 votes in May 2005.
How many ethnic minority people are there in Sedgefield? Has there been trouble with Asylum Seekers or Migrant Workers? Is the BNP about to make the same sort of breakthrough as they did in the North West?
mmm.. do I sense a state of denial here? I'm not suggesting that the BNP are anywhere near taking a Parliamentary seat. However they took 9% of the popular vote, albeit with a "Celebrity" candidate. Also back in May they pushed the Labour candidates into third place in Spennymoor ward and in Lower Spennymoor & Tudhoe Grange the BNP candidate was only 10 votes shy of the top LibDem loser. Incidentally 9% across the region translates into at least 1 Euro-seat.
This is not in some half forgotten Mill Town where different ethnic groups live "parallel lives", but in the heartland of New Labour. Is it possible that the BNP could grow a local government base of similar proportions to the one they have in the North-West?

"The British National Party, who did not stand in Sedgefield at the last general election, came fourth with just under 3,000 votes. Its candidate, Andrew Spence, is well known in the region, having played a leading part in the mass fuel protests during new Labour’s first term. "
That is probably why. That and the usual hate mongering.

It just shows how desperate the BNP are when they regard it as a breakthrough, when they scrape together enough votes to save a deposit. This in a constituency where the result was a foregone conclusion, and protesters knew they were not in danger of actually electing a BNP MP.
Yes, this by-election was perfect for the BNP breakthrough - where was it? Just shows how few people the Nazis can actually fool.
Where was the BNP candidate in Ealing Southall on the same day - surely this was a plum seat for them to make their point - a seat with 39% British Asian population. Or couldn't they face the prospect of being electorally humiliated by the very people they want to remove from the country?
In Southall, the English Democrats polled poorly, only 152 votes - but don't confuse this lot with the BNP Nazis. The English Democrats are right wing English nationalists, but avowed non-racists.

The steady rise in BNP support nationally reflects the will of the public. The BNP dont vote for themselves thousands of times.
This is the democratic will of the people.
The reason BNP doesnt make even more gains is because the Blair government has spent 10 years brainwashing our schoolchildren(who are now voters).
The catch 22 situation here is,the brainwashing will continue until we get a party that promotes free speech and allows schoolchildren to concentrate on schoolwork.Unfortunately, the young voters will never have the worldliness to vote in such a party.

Surprise Surprise spoilt votes again in the by elections this Country is becoming totally corrupt. The Scottish Elections the SNP if they had enough seats were going to pull out of Europe and Surprise Surprise spoilt votes lost them that chance. The voting fraud investigation they were going to have never took place.
Our once proud democratic country is now a labour run dictatorship

Forward the BNP. Sedgefield was an indicator of things to come. Those who say they are (all the customary collection of rude and ignorant epithets) should produce hard evidence to support their derogatory claims - or shut up. The BNP stands for the rights of the british people.

The BNP generally score well in the North East. Why that is, I don't really know.
I doubt that means the BNP will win a Commons seat or anything.

I must have been asleep when the BNP made a break through, as I do not remember that one at all.
