Help with changing dryer plug!!?

Ok, here's the deal. I moved into a new house and the outlet for the dryer has four holes, and my dryer plug has 3 prongs. So, I changed the cord, (Red wire, then white in the middle, then the black wire, and green attached to ground on dryer). Now, the dryer won't come on. It worked fine at the old place. I have power to the outlet, plus I am getting power at the plug. Any ideas?

should be 230 volts on the 2 outside holes where the cord plugs in or 230 volts between the red and black wire...you should also be able to read 125 volts from either the red or black wire to the white wire....sounds like you got it connected properly so all that leaves is one line is out...check to make sure breaker reset properly or if it uses fuses one of them could be bad...

are you sure that your dryer can take that much power? Check the back of the dryer to see. there should be a sticker on the back that will tell you the correct wire size. If you have to you should be able to turn of the breaker to the dryer and change the outlet to the one you need for your dryer. The 4 prong is usually used for a stackable unit, because it needs power for the washer and the dryer. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

the recent code demands a 4 prong outlet and matching cord. the recent cords are on the ironmongery keep, below $20, straight forward to chang, do exactly it mutually as that's unplugged. the floor is green or bare copper, the impartial is going interior the middle and is white, the different 2 wires are strains and that they do no longer count on the terminal board. merely one on each and every. get rid of the floor jumper interior the dryer whilst making the exchange.

wow sounds like you did every thing. the only thing i can think of is if you have one of those new HE dryers you would need to have some thing (garments) in the the dryer. but i think you still get power to led lights on the panel. if its more then five yrs old call for repair, if under call lowes and speak to someone who installs them. they know alot more about trouble shooting then some repair guys i have talked to. gl
