It's as easy or hard as you want to make it.

I think the best way to get into gardening is to pick a small spot to start with. The little strip of grass that is a pain to mow between your sidewalk and your house, if it has sun, is perfect for a first flower garden. Any spot in the sun, using the square foot gardening method, is perfect for a first veggie garden. A large container is great for a first garden of any sort. You can even mix flowers and veggies... a little garden with a tomato plant at the back surrounded by basil plants and then marigolds filling out the rest of the bed would be easy, pretty cheap, and fun. And it would look good.

The trick to making it easy and cheap is to start small, grow things that are usually successful, and grow what you like. And concentrate on making your soil good. Take a look at what Square Foot Gardening says about soil. You can create good soil in a container or in a small raised bed, and you do not have to do the hard work of digging and improving existing soil.

Hope this helps! It's a really fun hobby.

Its not to hard, depending on where you buy your supplies (wal mart has really good sales on flowers and other gardening stuff) as well as how large you want your garden to be.

Also try to start with easy plants, ones that take alot of abuse before they die, this will help your confidence and then you can move on to harder plants.

Now, the thing with gardening is that it is very time consuming, meaning that first you need to arrogate the soil, (turn it over to allow moisture to get in) and slightly dampen it with the mist setting on your hose. Then reading the instructions on the box of each plant place the plant in the best spot for it (sunny/shade) and dig the appropriate size hole for it, put the seed/plant in it and cover it up. Now you have to wait for the next few weeks, watering it at appropriate times of day, and making sure no one tramples your plants, as well as weeding out the bad plants that take up precious space and nutrients from your planted garden plants.

It may seem like they are taking forever, but in the end its well worth it, when you get continuous complements from your family, neighbors and Friends.

some basic things you would need for gardening would be:

    Shovel

    Rake

    Hoe

    Watering Can

    Gardening Gloves

But this site will tell you what is exactly the basics for starting a garden, fertilizer could be a good investment.

No it's not that hard and it's great fun and a good form of exercise and doesn't have to be expensive.. depends on the size and type of garden you've got. You can do it on a window sill or balcony and you can grow nice veg in growbags if you don't have space for a veg plot. and sowing your own stuff from seed is is v. satisfying and cheaper than garden centres.. A few pots tubs and hanging baskets really brighten the place up or go for perennial flowers which come back every year by themselves.

Get yourself a few basic tools, researcg on the net or your local library and go for it!

I think it depends on the person... I'm a terrible gardener, but I have no desire to do it.. I have some really great areas in the backyard, but don't know where to start.. Then there's my friends mom... I call her Mrs. Mother Nature.. No joke she has a twisted branch willow tree that a couple yrs. ago she got a stick and just plunged it into the ground and now the thing is 5 ft. tall ! I can't grow anything... ! Read books and visit nurseries.. Which can get very expensive... If you don't know what you are looking for, I go for the things that come back.. Annuals... Less work.. Also, a good plant is a hosta.. They are green, but are good fillers in darker areas. Basically you can't kill them and they can get HUGE ! My mother in law has some that are atleast 3 ft. across.. Plus they split for transfer really easily.. Daylillies are the same way.. You can't kill those either... good luck

I got the gardening bug about 5 years ago after I managed to germinate some melon seeds on a windowsill in my flat. Having moved to a house with a small garden, I really wanted to carry on with the magic I had witnessed. What really got me going was a short 2 hour course at the local horticutural college which was very inexpensive. I am still attending courses 4 years later! It's given me a much greater understanding about plants, soil, seeds etc. I suggest you take a look at your local colleges and see whats on offer. Enjoy!

Gardening can be a back breaking and mucky job depending whether it is in it's natural state. It reminds me of my school days when we had gardening classes. The teacher said,"the first thing you do is pick out all the stones". There was'nt just stones there but dog's poo everywhere..eeeek.

So many types of gardening, vegetable growing is hard work all that digging etc, but sitting in a deck chair watching your wife cutting the lawn, is easy gardening.I know which I prefer.

Depends if you want to start your own business or just do it for a hobby. You will need some tools like spade, lawn mower etc personally i like planting flowers but hate th weeding bit and cutting the grass. it can be hard work and time consuming if you let the weeds get out of hand.
