a situation in baseball?

im a umpire and i had been getting beefed by this coach all ninght. Ok he says that if a runner is on third wiht 2 out and the runner crosses home plate BEFORE the batter-runner going to firstbase is called out, that the runner from 3rd scores and his run counts. i said no it doesnt because the runner going to first is not safe and there for the run does not count. am i right or is he right?

Update:

i no the coach was a complete jackass. he argued calls every inning. seroiusly, this is a Rookie blal game (4,5 and 6 year old kids hitting off a pithcing machine) and he is arguing calls. He actually tried to get in a fight with the other coach during the game.

If there is one thing I learned in 35 years of umpiring baseball games, it is that coaches don't know the rules. What's worse, they think they know them better than the umpire does. It's not what they don't know that causes you heartburn - it's what they know *for sure* but they know it wrong.

You were absolutely right, because no run can EVER score on a play where the the third out is made by the batter-runner before safely reaching first base.

Learn to quote this sort of thing, literally and figuratively, from the Rule Book. Read it often and you will always find things you didn't know. Be able to say, "Nah, coach, that run can't score because the batter-runner made the third out before he got to first." If he persists, say, "No run, coach. No run. Period. End of discussion."

Don't let those ignorant coaches (and I coached for ten years, too) get to you! If this guy had been "beefing all night," remember next time to shut him up early and you'll earn his respect.

You made the right call. When the 3rd out is a force out no runs count. If the out was not a force out any runs crossing home before theputout are made count.

When I was an ump I'd let a coach speak his mind, argue, then tell him I made the right call. If he wants to protest the call he should go get a rule book pretty darn fast. Then turn away from the coach and proceed with the game.

Don't get into an arguement with any coaches.

You are correct, the run does not count.

Why would you let this guy ride you all night? I am a former umpire, and when someone started that kind of thing, I would silence it immediately.

    1. Talk to the coach and explain your decision.

    2. If he doesn't agree, too bad. Let him beef about it for a few seconds.

    3. If he continues for a minute or more, or starts up again later, tell him to cease and desist.

    4. If he does not, it's time for the thumb.

Once a coach or player knows he's getting under your skin, he's not going to let up until you take action.

You are right and he is a moron.

If there is a runner on first and the batter hits a ball into the gap & the runner from first scores and then the batter is thrown out at second then the run counts.

You are correct and you need to report this coach to the league. His behavior is completely unacceptable for this age group. What you should have done is run him. I am assuming you are a pretty young kid, don't let coaches intimidate you. If you umpire another game with this guy as a coach, give hime a rule book as a present.

no, inning is considered over after 3 outs, even if he scored, on a pop up in the outfield it wouldn't count, your completely right that guy must be a lowlife argueing in volunteer toddler leagues like there is a million dollar prize when he is the one wrong anyways, don't sweat it hes the dumbfuck...

If its two out as long as the batter going to 1st base is out at first the run would not count.

You are right because the play at first was a FORCE play. If the play was at second base and it wasn't a force play the runner would of been safe.

YOUR right. you know what... dont listen to him! i remember at a world series game the other coach got ejected. So if you have to, eject the coach!

if you ever see this coach again tell him he is an idiot you are right because it was a force play
