Why do we close our eyes when we sleep? When we cry? When we imagine? When we kiss?This is because ...?

cos we're simply deep in thought. we're lost in our minds and wrapped in our emotions. and also we concentrate and focus the best with our eyes closed. it blanks out the whole world

This is all just my opinion:

1. when we sleep because its keeps out light. Darkness produces a neurotransmitter called melatonin, which may aid in sleep. Also because it protects our eyes during sleep because while we have autonomic responses (blinking, pulling away from something painful, etc), we consciously go through a lot to keep our eyes safe from invasion while awake that we can't do while sleeping. Lastly probably because it removes distraction while trying to fall asleep.

2. I wouldn't say people close their eyes all the time when they cry. However, this could be from irretation of wiping away tears. Also, our brain is pre-programmed with facial expressions that go along with our emotions. One for grief is a scrunched face with a frown that is similar to tension. So we scrunch our eyes closed. Or maybe you are hiding your face.

3. when we imagine probably has something to do with limiting distraction. Imagination is based soley on top-down processing. Essentially we form images off of previous experiences. Its easier to recall those memories and experiences with minimal distraction. Leaves a wider portion of brain power to concentrate on the task at hand. Then again, some people daydream with their eyes open, but i guarentee you they aren't focused on anything they are looking at and might as well have their eyes closed.

4. I close my eyes while kissing because otherwise I'm staring at a nose, ear or the wall behind his head. It's easier to get lost in the moment without those distractions.

That's a good question that has a very scientific answer. We close our eyes when we sleep because our eyes are the most rested while closed, and also to enable REM (Rapid eye movement) which ome scientists say causes you to dream. You close your eyes when you cry becuase the tear ducts in your eyes are over active, so when you close your eyes the tears release. I don't know about the imagine thing--I usually imagine with my eyes open (working on projects, day dreaming) You close your eyes to kiss because it feels kind of wierd (to some people) to be starring that close to someones face, and also closing your eyes relaxes you more. Closing your eyes is probably one of the most facinating things that humans do. Your eyes charged themselves while closed and the best way to get something out of your eye is to close it.

We close our eyes when we sleep because it is natural for the body to do so, our eyes need rest.

Most people cry with their eyes open and close them during the process because the pain is terrible and while closed you think of what is making you cry.

If you close your eyes while you are imagining it's because you are trying to visualize what it is you want to accomplish.

To flee into the inner mind without the distraction of visual stimulus...

In all it is an act of escapism. Be it psychological or biological escape or rest!

Ergo:. When we kiss our imagination of that reality is for more enticing than the reality itself... the act in tself is a representation of trust, passion and things to come... ;)

because the best things in life are unseen...maybe.

when we sleep it's because our bodies are completly relaxed, when we cry it's because there is a a reaction to the tears and when we kiss because (not everyone closes their eyes) it's kind of odd to look at someone elses face that is right up against yours.

I know there are real reasons but I can't be bothered to go look...

in sleeping, we close our eyes because we want to rest them but in kissing, crying and imagining, we close them because we want to see some imaginary images and we want to feel all the emotions involve.

Oh no. I sleep, kiss and cry with my eyes open. Why? Because I'm friggin awesome, and that's what friggin awesome people do. Bam.
