What would c. a. d. mean in French?
I am trying to read a math book that is written in French. I have run across the abbreviation, c. a. d., and do not know what it means. The full sentence is:
"On suppose que p est elliptique c. a. d. que p_0 =\= 0 partout."
p_0 means p has the subscript 0 (although this doesn't have any bearing on my question). Thanks in advance.

c.a.d means "C'est à dire", which you can translate to i.e ("that is").

Stym is right.
It means something like 'which mean'
"On suppose que p est elliptique 'which mean' que ..."

It means ''c'est-à-dire'' (hyphens people, hyphens!) and it would be, ''that is.../which means.../in other words...'' in English.
