Help with an old WW2 movie?

Alright, I saw this movie when I was a kid and I've been trying to find a DVD. It was a WW2 flick probably made in the 60's, a bunch of British soldiers are on an island in the Pacific being chased by the Japanese. Towards the end, there are only two guys left and they make a dash across an open field to safety, zigzagging to avoid Japanese sniper fire. I think they both get shot, though, just a few yards from the rest of their regiment. Does this ring any bells?

Update:

I have both Yojimbo and Sands of Iwo Jima. Neither is the one I'm looking for.

I was going to say "The Naked and the Dead", but I think it was about American troops, it definitely isn't the 2 mentioned before me! Here's a link that might help, there were sooo many movies though!

Would that be "The Sand Pebbles"? But then again, they were Chinese, not Japanese. Are you sure it's WW2? Because the setting here is 1927. The film was made in 1966. Steve Mcqueen's character also got sniped in the end. Check out this link below. Hope this helps
