the best way for a person to start a habit of saving money is have it taken out of his wages at work. then when you get a pay raise you automatically increase the amount you save.. if you can not do it at work than == treat yourself just like any of the other bills your owe -- but weekly you pay yourself (put money in savings first.) my hat is off to you -- at least you want to safe and not wanting three or four more credit cards.

Set up a payroll deduction plan for savings. Maybe in a credit union or whatever your employer has available ( even savings bonds).
If you don't have it available in your net pay, you can't spend it.
