probs installing epson C46 printer on old pc?

I'm trying to install my epson c46 printer on an old windows 98 pc for my daughter. it comes up communication error or something to do with ltp1 port printer and its not showing how much ink there is.

I understand that it is a usb connection but how do I get the pc to recognise this instead of the parallel port?

Update:

Ive tried going into properties to select usb as the print port but it does not give me this option, just a list of ports 1-10.

Ive also tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times and when I try to print a test page teh same message as in the above question appears.

I think im beat.

First uninstall the printer software completely.

Disconnect the printer cable. It is probably not fully connected (ie was free with a printer or cheap to buy) and therefore it cannot handle the data transfer regarding the ink levels.

Shut down and restart the computer.

Run the installation program. When prompted, connect the USB cable to the printer and computer..

The new hardware wizard should spring into life and start searching for drivers for the new printer it has found on the other end of the USB cable. Don't touch anything.

When you get the message that your hardware is installed and ready for use, go to the Printers folder and right-click on the C46 printer icon, select properties and print a test page.

Go to control panel, printers and faxes, right click on Epson printer, click properties. Click on the port tab, select USB or USB1, apply and ok. That should fix ya up.
