The most ignorant thing I've seen on a menu ...?

I was browsing the TGI Friday's online menu and came across this in their low-fat/low-carb section:

SIZZLING CHICKEN & VEGETABLES

A sizzling skillet of onions & peppers together with garlic-marinated chicken breasts over melted American and Mexican cheeses. Served with a side of broccoli. NET CARBS: 17 (Cut 5 carbs by skipping the peppers and onions.)

I honestly can't believe that instead of suggesting to cut the HIGH IN FAT meat or cheese, they suggest you cut the VEGETABLES! To save on CARBS!

I wasn't really what section to put this in; since I frequent the v&v section, and it's talking about cutting veggies, I put it here.

I also know this isn't really a question, but who else finds that to be a little bizarre?

;)

Update:

Hehe, change that to "I wasn't sure what section to put this in" ... it's late :)

Update 2:

1) People going to TGI Friday's are NOT in survival situations. These are most likely people who eat there on a regular basis, and not because they're starving.

2) Health conscious people shouldn't eat t-bones and blue cheese. Even if I weren't vegan, I don't think those types of things are fit for consumption, even as a treat. I work at a restaurant, I know the so-called "nutritional" value of bleu cheese.

3) If anyone cares to take a look at TGI Friday's menu, there are virtually no creative non-meat items. There are actually no REALLY healthy items on the menu to speak of. It's a shame, it used to be my favorite restaurant as a child.

The whole Atkins thing weirds me out anyway, mainly because people tend to think of things in black and white and, all of a sudden, carbs were "bad." I actually knew a woman who was on it and had an intense craving for bananas. She ignored it because "bananas are carbs" and "carbs are bad." Her body was trying to tell her she was severely potassium deficient and when she ignored it's warnings, her heart stopped. She ended up fine, but ignoring a craving for FRUIT because you're convinced it's bad for you... now THAT'S ignorant!

A lot of ethnic restaurants offers menus which are ignorant. First example one ethnic restaurant may offer items in which you might see a item on the menu that you may like but you have to order it in huge proportions. You have to order the vegetables separately, the meat separately, etc. And you have theres way too much to eat in one sitting and very unhealthy and expensive if you do this. Most of the time, I don't want to take it or can't take the leftovers with me if I'm eating it there. They do have combination plates of something I usually don't want or like. In this case not enough to eat on the plate and they smear some unhealthy nasty sauce all over the plate or the sauce is cooked in the item already.

The second example, A ethnic full style restaurant might not offer a balanced meal. The menu is full of hot an spicy items and loaded with beans and rice and cooked melted cheese. They may offer a expensive crappy salad only full of a hot sauce. No where on the menu are there vegetables or anything else to offset the gas. And you may get the "runs" before you even get out the door.

Harry ..you have the option to not even eat there =) that is ridiculous though Heidi - I'm sure the chicken isn't sizzling either, is it? I hate how I used to be drawn to the awful advertising jargon they throw onto foods to make them seem more appealing...looking at it now they seem so infantile. Sizzling chicken and vegetables is a nice way to say :

"An overcooked skillet of destroyed onions and peppers together with flavor masked sterilized bird flesh over melted American (W/e that 'really' means) and mexican rotted tit juice of a cow. Served with a side of broccoli. NET CARBS: 17 (Cut 5 carbs by falling for a fad idea..)"

    Bon appetit!

I hope someone high up at TGIFriday's reads Yahoo Answers and sees your question and all the answers! It IS a ridiculous thing to put on the menu. They ARE capitalizing on the current fads and the hoped-for ignorance of their diners. But then again, as someone else on this list said, maybe most of the people who eat at TGIF don't really care that much about the fat content of their diet or the vegetarian aspect of it.

Even grilling high temperature meats causes cancer like cariogens and tran fatty oils which are bad for health. Should we prevent such things in our health? More and more products are invented to prevent cariogens in our meals. And we ask why? Didn't the Carb diet went out sometime ago? Go vegan!!!!

That is very rediculous but that is why AHA declared Atkins to be unhealthy. Low-carb diets never work out in the long run and cause more heart problems than any other diet. I'll never understand how low-card diets became so accepted yet people continue to scrutinize vegetarian diets.

Yeah, low carb diets are not the way to go anyways and people that follow them are putting their health at risk.

I've never heard of anything like this before. And I thought subway was bad enough, washing the vegetables in water that has so much chlorine in it it would pass for public swimming pool water!

Wow... uh... Hey, is there a low-CRAP option on that menu? No? Thanks. I think I'll just eat the super-delicious chick pea curry I have waiting for me at home.

The only thing I can TG for is the fact that I've never been in that restaurant.

hahaha people have such a skewed view of what being healthy actually means like people will try outrageous diets like the ice cream diet or pills before they will actually realize eating a healthy diet (vegan :]) and exercise is the only thing that works.
