If I get my dog desexed at an early age, will he still lift his leg to pee?

My dog is 5 months old and the vet is suggesting I get him desexed now. I was once told that if their balls are not fully developed then they won't lift their leg to pee. Is this true?

no.. my dog was snipped at 5 months. He did not lift his leg to pee tho until he saw another male dog doing it. He will lift his leg occasionally to pee, but he still mostly squats.

He does not have the urge to mark everything like an unneutered boy does however.

Not true at all! He has probably started lifting his leg already, but sometimes it helps if they learn by example. If you have an older male dog nearby, he will watch him and try to compete to see which of them can lift their leg the highest. Its the funniest thing to see when a young pup tries so hard, he falls over. Its part of the alpha thing. The alpha must have a good peeing range to effectively mark his territory.

    No. He'll pee normally

We have an intact male (we co-own him with the breeder. We get the dog, but she wants him to stud a few times) and he doesn't always lift his leg. Larger breeds sometimes won't leg-lift because of the pressure it puts on their hips.

yeah my dog had that when he was four months old and he still lifts it although sometimes he doesnt but its not like he squats like a girl he kind of just stands there with his legs a little bit further back then they would be if he were normally standing and does it but it doesnt hurt them in any way to have it done early. he wont just squat like a girl though i promise and he will try to mark his territory sometimes i know because my dog does and he had it done at an early age.

    EDIT:

a better example is this picture:

my dog does not try to get this far down to the ground at all when he does and he only goes about an inch or two lower from his height of standing and he looks like this dog too except he is part wolf.

This isn't true at all. Leg lifting is a LEARNED trait and not related to sex hormones. My puppy was neutered before I got him at 14 weeks and he lifts his leg. Sort of...mostly he just picks up a foot, but given his size I doubt he'd hike it any higher if he was still intact.

people don't realize that a dog lifting his leg to pee is an aquired trait.. for instance a dog learns to pick his leg up from seeing another dog do it.

i have a friend with a female dog who lifts her leg to pee, lol.

but yeah, i have 3 male dogs who are neutered and they all lift their legs to pee.

The sooner you get him neutered the less likely he will mark his territory on everything. If you wait too long your dog will begin producing more testosterone causing him to become more dominant. But if you get it done sooner he will less likely be a leg lifter and mark his territory all over your furniture. Its best to not have a leg lifter as it is very annoying.

Its true. But you most likely have to do it at an early age. They pee like a female dog and do not mark or life the leg.

I personally think this is way too young to have a puppy neutered.

I like mine to have their puppyhood first and prefer to wait until they are fully developed before having them castrated or spayed.

no it is not true. but he will not develop the masculine characteristics of his breed until he is fully sexually mature, this really doesn't matter though, as his personality will not change from fixing..
