What to say about me . . . . . I'm old enough to know better and too young to care. A WoW addict and comic book fan. I like history, philosophy, and love the sciences. I write and am just about to finish my first novel (I'm very excited by that). Don't really know why anyone thinks my opinions are worth listening to, but I like to give them anyway. I make awesome chili.

  • What kind of sewing machine to get?

Trying to decide what kind of sewing machine to get. I'm essentially a beginner, interested in quilting, making stuffed animals, and clothing. I've gotten conflicting advice regarding computerized vs mechanical machines.

I've had people tell me I need a computerized machine that has all the bells and whistles and embroidery and stuff

Others have said I need a good used mechanical machine that will have fewer functions but be more durable.

Any input or recommendations would be appreciated.

  • Cell phone insurance needed?

I run an office with ten cell lines. Every one has a rather expensive phone that the company paid for. As it turns out nobody has insurance on their very expensive phones. Asurion will not issue insurance for a phone once fifteen days have elapsed since purchase. Does anyone know of another company that will insure cell phones?

  • Want a free kitten?

To all you posters who want to know where you can get a free kitten (without having to pay shelter adoption fees), let me tell you about my absolutely free, didn't cost me one red cent cat.

This cat, which I found in a parking lot, has so far cost me $200 in vet bills for his exam, tests, shots, and boosters. Tomorrow we go in to get him fixed, which is another $130, and chipped, $30.

My point? If you can't afford $100 for a shelter cat that has been vaccinated, fixed, tested, and examined, then you definitely can't afford a 'free' cat.

  • Would if be a faux pax to wear a sari?

I am a western gal and about as white as white can be (no mistaking me for an Indian). I think that saris and punjabis are some of the most elegant clothing there is. But would it be a huge faux pas or insulting to Indians to wear them? Are they associated with any religious intention I should know about? Unfortunately I don't have any Indian friends to ask.

  • Help! Car accident has left me stranded in FL!?

I was staying at a hotel in Orlando and an employee hit my car. As a result my car is undrivable. I'm staying with my boyfriend and it's at a repair shop so that's all ok, and we did file a police report and do all the things your supposed to. So here's my questions (when I research these for myself all I find are personal injury lawyer ads): Who is liable for the accident? The employee, the hotel owner (who assured us that everything would be taken care of) or the property owner (Amerisuites inc)? Are they liable for anything beyond the damage to the car (I'm going to need a plane ticket home and one to get back when my car is done being repaired) What if the repair is more than the value of my car? I can't afford to get a whole new car as a result. Any help you guys could offer would be extremely appreciated.

  • Fellow Theists (Christians especially)?

If an atheist on their deathbed asked you NOT to pray for them, would you honor that wish? If a dying friend of a different religion asked you to pray to their god(ess) would you?

    Why or why not?

(Now don't be mean, I'm being serious)

This is what got me thinking about it:

  • For my atheist friends, a (silly) question of etiquette?

This is going to sound a little silly, but I want to be correct. When I am writing about atheists, do I capitalize the word as you do with Christian, Muslim, Wiccan, or Buddhist? Or do I leave it lower case (I guess the matter is, do you consider atheism to be a religion or an absence of religion)

    Thanks guys

  • For aspiring and/or professional tatoo artists, design help?

I am trying to design a full back piece, unfortunately I lack the chops to design anything that looks even coherent, much less good. I want to include two elements, possibly three. The two I definitely want in the design are a lioness and a spiral. The 'optional' one is a compass rose (if you can make it fit).

I favor the look of the Japanese woodblock style but am open minded to any kind of design. Any ideas guys?

  • Question for hardcore comic geeks - serious inquiries only?

Working on a project about maneuver warfare, I need ideas for heroes that inflict any of the following stressors on their foe (or suffer any of the following as a weakness).

    1. Sleepiness

    2. Hunger

    3. Illness

    4. Overconfidence

    5. Ignorance/idiocy/stupidity

    6. Anger

    7. 'Bashfulness' (reluctance to act or make dangers known to others)

    8. Haste (forcing opponents to act before they are prepared)

    9. Overexcitedness (too happy to accurately weigh risks)

Thank you for your help (right now I'm using the 7 Dwarves as a model and would like to use something more 'serious')

  • Looking for market for handmade sock monsters - input appreciated?

I make sock monsters (like sock monkeys, but a little punk) and they are extremely popular with my college age friends and I've made a few for pay. Being a crafty individual I love to make these things. I've recently thought about selling them to the public. They fall halfway between toys and textile art and each one is an individual with its own adoption papers.

So my question is what sort of market place would support the sale of these things? I'm not looking to support myself, but I would like the hobby to be self-sustaining (which at $4 a pair doesn't take too much). The local farmer's market has crafts, but they're all sort of 'country kitchen' and I don't think my little monsters would sell well enough to make a table affordable.

Also, and I know this is hard without seeing the little guys, how much would you pay for one? I've seen similar items sell online for anywhere between $25 to $40.
