2002 grand am?

a 2002 grand am works fine. i shut off on a hot day and won't start, can't hear fuel pump or ne thing. just cranks fails to start. sits for a while and attempts to start a sucess, fires up. what can i cheak an or what is the problem? thanks for reading and serious answers plz!

    I own a shop, and have encountered this problem many times before. You either have a bad fuel pump, or an ignition control module. When the ignition module goes bad, it will run until it gets hot, won't run, and once it cools off it will run again. Test the fuel delivery system. With engine off, remove gas cap, and listen into the gas tank while someone turns the switch on. You should hear the pump come on for a few seconds. Check the fire to the spark plugs, and use a noid light to check the injector signal. If you have fire to the plugs; spray some carb cleaner into the throttle body for about 3-4 seconds, move the can away, and start the engine. If it fires; the fuel pump, or pressure regulator is bad. If you have no fire to the spark plugs, replace the ignition control module, but also test the crank position sensor to eliminate it as the culprit. A crank position sensor usually either works or not, and it doesn't matter if its hot or cold. The odds are; 90% the igniton control module, and 10% something else is the culprit. An ignition control module can test good, but still be bad, as it only rears it's ugly head when it's hot.

    When it does not start you have to check for spark outputs and fuel pressure. You will need to check spark outputs to all cylinders to confirm that the ignition system is operating as it was designed. If that is good, check for fuel pressure at the port on the fuel rail close to the injectors. You need about 55 psi to run these things. If you don't have a guage, depress the little tire valve and see if it sprays up. After that you either have a fuel pump or wiring problem to it. Good luck.

    you should hear fuel pump run for 10 seconds after you turn key then i would go to relay check for pwer

    sounds like a fuel issue...make sure all lines are away from heat sources if so fuel pump is probably dead...
