dry skin ... cats?
My cat will only eat dry food, won't even look at tinned food or fish etc. On brushing him I notice he has tiny white specks in his fur, could this be dry skin? He is an "indoor" cat and never goes out.
Could someone please help?

When you give him his food, put a tsp of olive oil with it and mix it up..this will help with the dry skin but it will take up to 2 weeks to see results so be patient. This will not harm your cat I give this to my cat as well as dog and I got the tip from my vet.

When I adopted my cat from the shelter his fur was really dry and flakey. I gave him a bath using Mane and Tail shampoo and that really made a diff. Also, once or twice a week open a can of tuna and just drain the water into a little bowl for her add a 1/4 tsp of sunflower or olive oil, she'll think shes in cat heaven.

The white specs are called "dander" and yes it is dry skin... Most all cats have some dander, but it shouldn't be excessive...
Have you tried different brands of canned food? My cat only likes mushy (not shredded) Friskies canned food.
She's also fussy about the dry... It has to be Purina... A teaspoon of vegetable or olve oil a day on the dry stuff will help keep the 'dander" away.........
Good Luck.............

If you are worried, consult your vet. But it is probably natural skin shedding. There is a preparation called VitaPet which improved skin condition, as does Evening Primrose oil (both can be added to food). Don't put anything on your cat's skin. Also regular brushing will improve skin tone.

One of my black cats has white flakes on her lower back. She was just at the Vets. He checked it and said as long as there is no skin irritation, broken skin, bumps, etc then its not serious. You can brush her more to get the oils more to the area. You can try to get a small amount of vegetable oil rubbed down to the skin area ,the idea being he will lick it off.

NEVER, never, never, feed your cat ONLY dry food. Cats obtain some of their liquid not from drinking but from their food too. Thus your cat is dying of thirst and its affecting his liver and kidneys - hence the dry skin. By all means feed him (SOME) of those dry biscuits - but sprinkle them on 'proper' tinned cat food or fresh meat. Since his skin is so dry and out of condition at the moment, you might like to 'spoil' him by feeding him some 'fresh' oily fish - Mackerel being an excellent choice.

sounds like dandruff. Your cat could be dehydrated and not taking in enough fluids. My cat had that as well and it turned out to be her thyroid gland.
