How do I get my sister accept reality? She so obssesed with the UK that she pretends that she lives there!?

When I was a teenager, I desperately wanted to live somewhere else... I thought that my life would be so much better if only I could move away (for me it was New York City). It turns out I was actually quite depressed and didn't realize it. Maybe your sister is experiencing depression and "obsessing" about the UK is like her escape from her day to day life. There's nothing wrong with wanting to live in the UK, but there could be something deeper that is wrong. Try to convince her to see a counseller or a therapist if possible, it may really help. If you can't do that, talk to someone else who may be able to help her (depends on her age but some ideas are a school guidance counseller, parents, or a counselling/therapy group in your area).

The comment at the start saying through a nuclear bomb on the UK well thats jus nasty and pathetic, and the comment saying the USA is better blah blah. Grow up. Yeh i live in London, born in london, i love it here. I have also been to the USA and i really like it there too, but i hate George Bush everybody does here. completely. I stil would never say stuff like that about a country no matter where it is. If she loves the UK let her its not hurting anyone.

You can't change anyone but yourself. So...just let her be. As long as she is working and being a responsible adult, who cares? In fact try to find ways to get her to the UK. It sounds like that is what she wants. That is what a loving sister would do. Is try to help her reach HER dreams not squash them. Good luck.

From someone who lived in the UK and now lives inthe US I can] relate. When I was in my late teens I just knew I would live in the US. don't know why, don't know how, didn't know anyone here but something inside me wanted to be here.

I have now been here 26 years and would never go back to live.

Some people just know where their lives must take them.

Enjoy the fascination and learn the country and its culture with her, it will be very enlightening. Then when she does finally realize the dream you will have someone to visit.

Why does it bother you so much that your sister actually has a dream and a goal? She may well live in the UK someday and have a great life. Leave her alone.

It seems like a harmless enough ambition but your sister could be in for somewhat of a disappointment. It's easy enough to 'cure' her of her obsession, though. Let her visit England. Once she discovers how disliked Americans are by the British she will quickly become disillusioned.

That's quite a phase there. I mean I once thought I was apart of the movie the Matrix in real life, lol, but why the UK?

Pretend you and her are on a flight from the UK to the United States, then take away her passport, and tell her she is now stuck in the good old US of A.

so where is this UK at an wats so bad about it that u dont want ur sister living there??? it sounds like it must be a real awful place like Detroit or something??? dont no y any 1 wud want to live there...

I actually went through that phase, too. If she's a teen or in college, I don't think it's a problem. Maybe she'll make it happen. Or she'll grow out of it.
