Is harmlessness the keynote of your life?

"Harmlessness is the expression of the life of the man who realises himself to be everywhere, who lives consciously as a soul, whose nature is love, whose method is inclusiveness, and to whom all forms are alike, in that they veil and hide the light, and are but externalisations of the One Infinite Being."

"Harmlessness prepares the way for the inflow of life; harmlessness dissipates the obstructions to the free outpouring of love; harmlessness is the key to the release of the lower nature from the grip of the world illusion, and from the power of phenomenal existence."

"it is a state of mind and one which in no way negates firm or even drastic action; it concerns motive and involves the determination that the motive behind all activity is goodwill. That motive might lead to positive and sometimes disagreeable action or speech, but as harmlessness and goodwill condition the mental approach, nothing can eventuate but good."

*Tee he!* I don't know where your quote is from but I find it fascinating how closely (IMO) it mirrors the Tao Te Ching.

    So Yes!

"The ancient Masters were damn impressive.

    They were deep. Real deep.

Words can't even begin to describe how deep they were.

You can only talk about how they acted.

They were careful, like a man walking on thin ice.

They were cautious, like a soldier behind enemy lines.

They were polite, like a guest at a party.

They moved quickly, like melting ice.

They were as plain as a block of wood.

Their minds were as wide as a valley, and their hearts as clear as spring water.

Can you wait for that kind of openness and clarity before you try to understand the world?

Can you hold still until events have unfolded before you do the right thing?

When you act without expectations, you can accomplish great things."

    Namaste.

Harmlessness, it seems to me, is the very essence of Buddhism.

It actually sounds a great deal easier than it is. Life's choices are rarely black and white and it is often difficult to determine the least harmful course of action. Your last paragraph says it all.

So, I commend harmlessness both as an exercise in conscious living and as an end in itself.

    No.

Only people who have no life are harmless.
