Polycystic (literally, many cysts) Ovary Syndrome is a complex condition that affects the ovaries. In PCOS, the ovaries are larger than average, and the outer surface of the ovary has an abnormally large number of small follicles (the sac of fluid that grows around the egg, under the influence of stimulating hormones from the brain). These follicles, however, remain immature, never growing to full development or ovulating. This means that a women with PCOS rarely ovulates, and so is less fertile. In addition, she won't have regular periods and may go for many weeks without a period. Lots of in-depth information on the site below.

Polycystic ovary syndrome. In lay mans terms it basically means that lots of cysts develop on the ovary preventing the correct "budding" if you will of an ovum to be released during menstrual cycle. It can make it extremely difficult to conceive and also has more noticeable physical side effects like making sufferers put on weight very easily, excess body hair due to hormone in balances and it can also cause high blood pressure. Ironically the best way to cure PCOS is to have a baby!

i have this condition.it is when your ovaries are covered in little cysts, this can be detected by an ultrasound or blood test.my periods were non existant, for years, maybe 0-6 a year!.it is a hormone imbalance where you possibly do not ovulate,or maybe occasionaly.i gained weight very quickly over a 6 month period!.women with PCOS can also grow extra body hair, have acne etc. my menstrual cycle has only become regular since i lost my extra weight, and luckily i never suffered acne,as i scar very easily.every woman is different though, some with no symptoms at all.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I have provided a link that will be helpful in answering your questions better than I could. I will tell you from my personal experience it hurts, it messes up your periods, it can cause weight gain, infertility, and other problems. If you've been diagnosed with this, consult with the gyno before getting pregnant to ensure the best possible options for a healthy pregnancy. They can detect PCOS with abdominal and vaginal sonograms.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I was diagnosed with it five years ago and the symptoms include.
Irregular periods
Infertility
Male patern boldness
Weight gain (In a way that a man gets a beer belly)
Hairy on you face and tummy.
Deeper voice
Severe cramping.
If you have it you should mention metformin to your doctor, it seems to cancel out alot of these symptoms

PCOS is polycystic ovary syndrome
It is a hormonal inbalance that affects women. It is diagnosed by blood tests and a scan. The scan normally shows up lots of little cysts (look like a string of pearls). These are undeveloped eggs that have been released by your ovary. They don't mature properlly so don't release to make you ovulate. Some women are also insulin ressistant and require metformin to regulate blood sugar (can also help with weight loss)
Some of the symptons are :-
Anovulation
Irregular periods
excess hair in a male pattern - face - breasts - legs - arms - chin
acne
weight gain especially around the middle of the body (apple shape)
infertillity
painfull heavy periods
thinning hair on the head
Insulin ressistant
It is hard to diagnose as you don't have to have all the symptons and some people dont have any but still have pcos.
It can't be cured but you can try to manage it with healthy eating and exercise. Being a healthy weight can help relieve the symptons.
There is drugs to help with ovulation - clomid
It is with you for live not just when trying to conceive so its best to keep healthy. It can lead to diabetees - heart trouble - high cholesterol especially if overweight
