At What Age Do You Consider is a "Senior Citizen?"?

I have recently begun to respond to questions in the Senior Category and while we know that Avatars do not reflect 'age', it is difficult to guess anyone's age. Based upon some of the questions and responses, it seems that the 'senior' age varies widely in this forum. I am just curious as to what you all believe is the 'age' for a senior. I am 54 and I don't feel or act or believe I am anywhere close to 'senior'. I don't plan to retire from teaching until they wheel me out of the school on a stretcher - I dance, I sing, I act, I still wear shorts, I don't have wrinkles, or reflect much of the wear and tear that they say I'm supposed to at my age. People have looked at me and guessed I'm about 39-45..I remember a lot of the past because I had family who lived to old age (97+) and I was very communicative with my relatives. I love rap, hip hop, pop, gospel, country - all kinds of music...so I'm just wondering when am I supposed to be considered a "Senior Citizen"? I feel blessed!

Update:

Tell me some things that you are doing that the "younger crowd' would be surprised to know. (i.e. workout at the gym, play tennis, take dancing lessons, have a younger boyfriend or girlfriend....lol)

Update 2:

You guys are sooooooooo funny!!!! I have never laughed so hard! Thank you for making my day. It's going to be difficult to select a winner, but I do appreciate the comments. Love Y'all to LIFE!!!!

Singer, Thank you for this Question. I didn't know we had a Senior Citizens category. Now I do.

As for as your question goes. You are blessed, and so am I.

To many, don't realize how blessed they really are.

I choose to look at the positive and I do count my many blessing and

to God I give the Glory.

There are varied ages (like you say) that different establishments consider Senior Age. Bowling as a senior at 50 was the first thing I did & I was the youngest one in the league. I loved bowling. In no way did I like the title of Senior Citizen. Eating out was my second claim to the title of Senior Citizen and seems every restrarant was different, anywhere from 55,60,65. I don't like labels, however I am thrifty, having lived through the depression & WW2. Now at 76 & 81 my husband and I proudly claim the title, considering the alternative to not reaching this age.

Enjoy your day and enjoy the Title when they are carrying you out of the class room on that streacher. LOL~~~~~Jill

We are in the same boat Singer. I am fitter that most of the young bucks that I have around me. Also young for my chronological age etc. Still have longish hair and am still a rebel... some things just do not change. Let's say that 95 is a senior citizen. Having said that I know 45 to 50 year-olds that are "old people". Somehow they look in the mirror one day and say to themselves " I am now old" and gracefully fade away. The book on age has been re-written. I feel like a 20-year old and probably act like one as well (sometimes lol).

Be of good cheer -" youth is wasted on the young"

Age is a state of mind!!!!!!!!! Sounds like you are living your life to the fullest. To me the only benefits of being a "Senior Citizen" would be the discounts. I am gonna live life to the fullest wooooooo hooooooooo! It's gonna be a ride so if they think 65 is a old fine. But, who says we have to act like it!

In my country, a senior citizen is one who's age is 60 and above, of which they are given special priveleges, i.e. discounts on medicines, priority in queue, etc..

I guess this is also the age where on retires from work and enjoy the fruits of his/her labour.

But again, as you have stated, it is merely the count of the years and not the feel of the body. As similar to cars, any well maintained one reflects its good performance regardless of age. Be well!

My kids think I'm a senior citizen, and I'm only in my thirties!

But seriously, I would consider someone a senior when they're in their sixties.

You are a senior as soon as you begin to merge on the highway at 20mph, and slam on your breaks before taking a turn...also, when you shart all over yourself on a daily basis, ya might be considered a senior!

They say 62 or 65 but I think some are when they are 40 and others are forever ageless and forever young
