you probably have a leak in the fuel line somewhere, have it serviced very soon because its unsafe and its wasting gas

You could have a broken or disconnected fuel line or your carburetor is flooding. Look under the car to see if it is leaving a puddle or see something dripping. Look under the whole car because a gas leak could be anywhere from the back to the front.
If not open the hood and look to see if the engine is wet with gas around the top. NOT on top of the air cleaner but on top of the engine UNDER the air cleaner.
Just follow your nose it should lead you to the problem.

the first thing to attend to is the gas leak. you can just look under your car for a spot where some gas has leaked out.
if you don't see any then start the car and leave it in park and check again . something as simple as a fuel filter leak could cause this.
at any rate have the gas leak checked out you don't want your car to catch fire. as well the police or whatever will remove your car from the road if its really leaking gas and is then unsafe.

1st check your carborater and then your fuel injector, if you have a clogged fuel injector it will make your car stall, also the air filter, all of these will give you that gas smell, the chances of a fuel leak a minute , but worth checking into, but my money is on the fuel injector.

Sounds like a break in the fuel line near the rear of the car. It might help to know if it has a carb or if it is fuel injected.

in case you probably did no longer attempt to start up the engine, then the gasoline gadget does not prefer cleansing, basically the tank must be drained. in case you even positioned the main into the "ON" place and it kicked in the gasoline pump then the gadget as much as the gasoline rail must be wiped sparkling. in case you tried to start up it, then each and every thing needs cleansing.

I would check the fuel rail, fuel injectors and fuel pressure regulator for leak also.
Good luck!
