Question re: selling my stuff in friend's store.?
My friend is opening a gourmet deli specializing in lunch items. He said that I could sell my specialty cakes there if I split the proceeds from the cake sales with him 50/50. Is this generally how these arrangements go? Is he asking a reasonable/fair amount?

No, you do all the work, he does nothing but sell them. Definately not equal. I sell tons of consignments for others and my share is only 8%. Most consigners that even sell items such as crafts, clothes, woodworking etc in local stores only get 8-12%. You as the designer (maker) deserve at least 75%-25% split.

I have seen this arrangement before. I dont think its a bad deal really. How much would you be making if you didnt sell them there?
By selling your cakes in his store, you dont have to worry about all of the things involved in having your own. Things that cost money. Lots of money.
If you dont think you can make enough money with that deal, then negotiate with him. Chances are good that you could get a better deal.
