Why is Frank Thomas referred to as "Big Hurt"?

Because he can put a "Big Hurt" on you. It's sort of an old saying. Frank Thomas is, as far as I'm concerned, on the train to Cooperstown. And unlike fools like Gary Sheffield, he has had a great career, just keeps his mouth shut and plays nuts out baseball. He's probably one of the most underrated players in history.

Because he used to put a "big hurtin'" on opposing pitchers. This was when he was hitting 35+ home runs and had a batting average over .300. Then he was chronically injured, which was a big reason that the White Sox let him go.

It's a nickname that Hawk Harrelson gave to him because he could put a "big hurt" on teams with his power. On the flip side, Hawk called Craig Grebeck "Little Hurt" because he would hurt teams with his smallball approach.

Cause he like to hurt the ball by hitting it out of the ball park. Oh wait that's his nickname name for putting a hurt on pitchers.

he's referred to as the "big hurt" because his sister died of a disease when he was young and he became motivated to play baseball because of the death of his sister. So he has a "big hurt" in his heart as he plays baseball. It also refers to the way he takes the cover off the ball when he hits....

He is big and can hit the cover off the ball that is for average and power.
