What do you do when you buy a car from a private party?
If I'm going to buy a car from "BOB" , then how do I get the title and bill of sale? Do I have to do anything, or does he have to do that? Everyone keeps telling me to check my state's website, and i have but i don't understand.

Look for a lien on the title. If the title has a lien on it, you must get a lien release. Another thing, make sure that Bob gets you a current state inspection if Mississippi is an inspection state. If he doesn't, then after the money exchange and the paperwork is finished, you go to register and it requires an inspection, you will be required to get an inspection. If anything is required to be fixed, you will be responsible to fix it. Hope I answered your question.
P.S. That part of the country has tons of Flood Vehicles. You might want to get a CarFax on the vehicle before you do anything.

if the car you are buying is paid off, then the person should already have the title. All he needs to do is sign the back over to you and then you should be able to get the car registered. It is easier if you talk to your local Town Clerk. They are usually up on all that info. If the car is not paid off, it's a little more confusing.
Your right, the web site was confusing!
