Could this man be charactarized as a "fundie" atheist with too much time on his hands?

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/c...

Honestly, if God is such a non-issue to him, why spend so much time whining about it?

Opinions?

Update:

I thnk it's the same with people who cause a huge ruckus about making sure the Tem Commandments are displayed everywhere....I'm a Christian but really, why do both sides try to shove their beliefs down other people's throats? The man in this article was doing that, in my opinion.

Update 2:

meshugga--RIGHT!!! lol, I'll take some too!

Update 3:

I'm not ok -- my faith is not at all pure... I'm wanting opinions...Really, why do any of us waste our time on this site? TO kill time, right?

Update 4:

Samurai Jack -- YOUR bias is showing! lol. I just said I think both sides get a little zealous. For crying out loud, what's wrong with a moment of silence? He's trying to get that practice abolished...nobody's praying out loud, so what's the problem? why is he so threatened about it?

Update 5:

Super-Wow---THANK YOU! my sentiments exactly!

yes, i believe that would be accurate.

unfortunately, THIS is what many people think of when they hear the word *atheist*. so those of us who are NOTHING like this man get tainted by his actions.

i myself have never protested against anything religious.

however, if it came to teaching religion (not as an elective, but as a requirement), then i would object. it's not a matter of god being a *non-issue*, it's a matter of my child unwillingly learning what i feel is unnecessary.

i can teach my child morals & values at home. =)

Over a moment of silence? Wow, yeah, I have to say this guy is just as fundie as any Evangelical Christian I have ever seen. But, unfortunately, that's how these types of situations work themselves out. People seem to think that in order to get at a fundie, one has to act like a fundie... and I have yet to see it work that way. All we end up is more fundies, just with different labels. I could see him being upset if he found actual evidence that his children were being taught the Christian religion itself at this school... instead he's attacking anything and everything he deems as "Christian" and telling people to stop everything they are doing so he can feel better about sending his kids to that school. I would suggest to this man to do what other parents have done.... homeschool if you hate it that much.

I'm not sure why people have become so offended by everything, nor why they make such huge issues out of things like a moment of silence... but I'm afraid it's contagious, so I try to stay away from anyone that appears to be a "fundie"... I don't care what religious or non-religious label they carry.

I don't know...it looks like your bias is showing.

If he were fighting to make sure that prayer stayed in school, you call him a "warrior of god", or some such overly dramatic moniker.

Really, when you get right down to it, what place does prayer have in our schools?

They are there to learn what they need to do to survive in the secular world. Any child can quietly say a prayer to themselves at just about any time.

There really isn't a good reason to mandate prayer, or silence, to our children in school.

Edit: Nobody gets hurt by a lot of things we could have kids do in school. But we generally choose not to do them because they have no bearing upon what they are learning. You don't honestly hold up as your argument "we should do it because it doesn't hurt anyone"??? Do you??

That moment of silence every day adds up to 180 minutes, or 3 hours, of missed schooling each year. Best we say our prayers at home. School is for education, not religion.

The man has way too much time on his hands. He should devote some time to gang control and drug education if his true intention is to have a positive impact on the future of his children and others. [ Yes, I sure do!]

Yep, Fundie Atheist. Now that's the term of the night.

    Never heard that one.

    Good point Shades.

There are plenty of atheists who whine and cry about why they never get their prayers answered..etc, etc...etc...and why they can't believe in a God who does this and does that...it really is boring listening to all their foolish childish crying and complaining and railing against God.

Always trying to disprove God....offended that he exists...

What is more stupid, a person who worships a God they can't see or a person who is offended by a God they don't believe exists?

He's probably a former believer...and I personally think that for some, old habits die hard. If they were raised with a pushy form of religion...well they may very well still apply the same mindset to their new view...

Ms. Taurus said he's probably a former believer. i read the article, and it says as much. he describes things as 'sins' and he goes hunting for them, just as a fundy might do... it's kind of sad that he seems not to trust his kids to think for themselves. personally, i sang the hymns in school assemblies and it did me no harm - catchy tunes, some of them.

Why are you wasting your time asking about a "fundie Atheist" if your faith is so pure?
