Should players be stripped of awards if they admit / test positive for steroids?

Example: 1988, Jose Canseco wins the MVP and has admitted taking steroids, should his name be scratched from the books? Should the runner-up for the award receive it?

I firmly believe that the steroid issue needs to be focused far beyond Barry Bonds even though the talk is mostly about him right now. Bonds is just the abuser who's currently in the spotlight at the moment.

yes, i have been an advocate of this for some time... strip them all regardless of name, stature, record, ect.. bonds* gets the attention because he is the poster boy for this issue.. shame on him.

Source(s): kick the steroid boys out of baseball ala pete rose...
  • While I think Jose Canseco is an opportunistic who has only admitted to his steroid use to sell a book, at least he was man enough to admit he used them. Maybe he deserves an award for at least owning up to what he did.

Maybe in Canseco's case. In the Steroids Era though? Nope, too many were INCLUDING the Pitchers. It would be hard to get the REAL winners name, considering almost ALL the players would be removed.

Who's to say the runner up didn't use too? Its just part of the game for the past 20 or so years. We pretty much just have to live with it.

Do you take out the pitcher's name who threw the record tieing pitch to bonds since he got popped too? Its way too deep to mess with. This era will just be known as the roid era.

There are also admitted cheaters in the HOF. See Gaylord Perry.

If they tested positive, then fine, but if they admit under heavy veil of guilt, they should keep the records/awards.

Barry and others may have used drugs, but did not abuse them, otherwise they would have serious health problems by now. I think that the dosages were not severe because HGH and steroids will never enhance professional baseball player's performance in the ways that the Barry haters think.

Let them keep the award(s) but hand out a stiff punishment when they fail a test. And a notation in the record book to indicate PEDs were involved.

No, for the simple reason that MLB knew steroids were happening and did nothing about it back then I'm not saying players were right in using the drugs, but I didn't see MLB doing anything about it.

NO that can never happen. will they take away Pete Rose's hits. what about all those pitchers who doctored the baseballs will they take away their wins.

by not voting them to the Hall of Fame is punishment enough.

i dont think they should take the mvp and make the runner up the mvp but if it is something big like most homeruns or most hits or something like that then yes
