Childcare costs?
I'm going back to work for the first time since my children were born and I'm shopping for daycare. I've never had to pay for childcare, so I'm just wondering what the average daycare center charges for a 4 year old.

$2/hr is not realistic so don't be shocked if you find out it is much more for you. The average daycare in our town ran from $525 - $800/ month. We take him into the city where we work and found a daycare at a community college. They were recommended by our neighbor who works for Family Protective Service and inspects daycares. We pay $500/month and that is an excellent rate.

Man, I pay $184 for my 20 month old. It went down from $195 when she was an infant. She has been there since she was 9 months - and I have another on the way. I'm not sure how I'm going to actually afford two in daycare - seems I'm only working to pay childcare and benefits! I live in upstate NY...

although a person running a daycare center would probably be cheaper (not necessarily), I would recommend going to a place that is a learning center as opposed to a daycare, esp since your child is 4 and should be going to kindergarden soon. my son goes to an actual preschool program and he has amazed me in what he has learned in just the past 9 months! i've worked for a daycare before and they just don't take the time that a learning center does. yes, it may be a little more pricey, but actually some learning centers (like my son's school!) has a fee assistance program. the regular rate for my son's program, now that he is 2 1/2 (but is in the older class) is $338 a month.
you may also, since your child IS 4, want to look into a headstart program through your local school system. usually they will let them start at 4, and it's actually a pre-kindergarden program....and it's usually FREE!!! Also the benefits for that would be that the kids he/she would be going to headstart with will be the ones he/she will be going to kindergarden with.

I pay 200 a week for a 3 year old and a 4 year old both potty trained in philly. For the cheepest, find someone who is doing it out of their house and not a daycare center.

Depends on the area and the amount of time. I believe for a 4 year old, where I live, it could be about 150 a week, including snaks and meals. THere are a few that are even more expensive and go up to 210. But you can get state help if you are financially low.

The second answer is more on target being potty trained is the key to a lower fee, When consideration a particular day care I would check them out Thur the consumer protection agency and the state to see it they have violations and If other parents filed complaints.

it does depend on your state, and the area of the state you live in. I pay $2 an hour for my daughter, she started daycare at 16 months old. I have an awesome amazing day care provider! Call your local day care licencening agency, and ask them what the going rate is.
Best of luck, I know this is not a easy change for you.

My son is 4 and i pay 140 a week for full time, he goes to a private school's child development center though, so its a little more pricey than other places.

My son is 2 1/2. We have paid betweed $125 to $160 per week. It should be a bit less for you since your son is older.
Good luck!
