AOL and banks!!!! ..... Long... but plz read...?

I spent half the night argueing with aol last night. Aol was not working. We clicked on it and it said to reinstall it if the message saying "AOL cannot start" kept appearing, then when you could get on it froze up & kicked you off. Basically we couldnt use AOL so I called for Tech Support. They proceeded to tell me that we are under a "free" aol plan & cant get tech support over the phone. Well that pissed me off right away because we've been a paying customer for 6 1/2 years. Its been taken out of the SAME bank account, etc all this time. Then they tell me we havent been paying since March or April. Well I pulled the first bank statement I could find which was June 2007 and low & behold there were the charges from AOL taken out of the account. Not just the $14.95 we're supposed to be paying, but $19.95 AND $22.37. I was pis*ed! I finally got to a supervisor. They said unless I have proof [[which I do]] then there was nothing they could do cuz they had no record of it being taken out.

Update:

So then I told them that I would go to the bank and fax them the papers they needed... then today the bank proceeds to tell [[my fiance & her mom]] that it will take 2 weeks to print the dang papers. I didnt like that answer so I called the bank and asked them. They said that it was $5 per statement to be printed out from MY account or $25 per hour for them to look through my account, pull out all the aol charges and print them for me. Its ridiculous! And they dont have a website that I can look at the statements... grr!!

I know this isnt really a question... more just venting... sorry everyone!

Update 2:

We are looking into other internet service providers but we're not sure who to go through. We are located in NJ.... and already have tried Optimum [[didnt like]].

We tried to cancel AOL like a year ago or more and they took the rate down to $14.95 instead of 19.95 or whatever... they didnt offer free service... As soon as I get the papers to fax to AOL and get reimbursed for all that money [[and we find another service provider]] we will promptly be canceling their sorry butts!

Well, you just don't seem to be having the best luck.

I agree with dnsouth01, you should tell them you are going to leave and see what they do. It really gets frustrating. I live in a town of 1300 in Ontario, Canada and we haven't got much in the way of choices. It's either Cable or Bell Canada, and Bell doesn't have high speed. Our Cable company keeps having problems and you phone and ask when it will be fixed and they tell you some time today! Yeah, when?!?! It really gets aggravating when they don't listen. I remember calling to find out what my bill was going to be because I got the first 90 days free and wanted to know what was coming out of my bank account. They finally found the answer and then I said, is that for every month, no, just this one, it was another price after that! I've gotten to the point that I just let them take their money and then figure it out. It sucks. They have is us in a corner and don't care. That's the problem with big business. They don't care about the little guy anymore.

I wish you the best of luck with AOL and the engagement.

    Congratulations!

what you need to do is give AOL your whole credit card number so they can see any account they have that are being charged to your credit card. sounds like you have more than one account. if you didnt create another account then some one got your info and created another account and you would tell AOL you would like that put under FRAUD. This way you can get your money back. Also for the free AOL...no you dont get any tech support. I dont know any free services that give you support for free, Try calling microsoft...you'll go broke good luck

You should really dump AOL.I say cut your losses and cancel the service. You probably can get some type of broadband whether it be DSL or cable. Not only will the connection be faster and more stable than dial up but you won't have the hassle of AOL's poor customer service.Just a tip when canceling do not take no for an answer, they will try to offer you free service for a couple of months but take it from me just tell them no,you want to cancel.

    I understand that

I have Ben there and fought with AOL and ended up drooping them they are rip offs ... if you like AOL call and tell the you want to drop AOL and they will give you 3 mo free at the end of that time call again and another 3-4 mo free

they will do anything to keep you if you threaten to quit AOL

Your phone company can probably get you broadband for the smae amount you were paying to AOL, it will be much faster and better customer service because they dont want to lose your phone account either.... Verizon has been excellent.
